should i just buy some azamax? i feel like after all the time and money spent on this and that, that in the end perhaps it would be cheaper to use something like azamax that works within a week and takes care of everything, not just larvae, or just adults. but damn $70 per pint is pricey for what would amount to one treatment in my garden, but hey if it works...

You can, but you'll have to mix it with water as a soil drench to hit all the larvae I believe. I've never used it.

Things can get blown out of proportion, he's right,
70bucks is tripping
You have enough to combat them now
Work with what you have , sticky traps will hold them back and not watering as often will deal with the larvae
Give it a month and reevaluate
Makes sense.

Controlling gnats should not cost an arm and a leg. You can make your own sticky traps by smearing vaseline on a piece of plastic. It doesn't cost a dime to let the soil dry out a bit. A pack of mosquito dunks should cost less than $10.

Controlling being the operative word there.

Do Not ignore them long term as they can go systemic.
Systemic means they are burrowed into plant and will breed internally.
They go systemic if the environment is made harsh on them.
Like when you are throwing a lot of traps and chemicals at them.

hey guys, what is bti or mosquito dunks? is it something I can buy at lowes? I watered everything with nematodes tonight and put up 16 assorted fly paper ribbons and pads throughout my grow rooms but I want to do more to ensure my best possible chances of success.
BTI = Mosquito Dunks, and are available at Lowes or hardware stores cheap.

I havent read through the entire thread. So this could be a repeat....

I had a real bad gnat issues in the past. I just used a half inch layer of sand for each container and kept damn for a few days. Not sure how big your op is though which could be a pain in the back if you have to chuck 40+ LBS of sand around

It's doesn't cost an arm and a leg actually,

I tried everything posted in this thread except azamax. The organic approach takes so damn long, it was chop time before I saw any results.

By then, adults have already infested the rest of the plants...top dressing doesn't work either. They simply find a different route via watering holes.

So, I finally used that...which breaks down fairly rapidly but isn't organic. That finished the damn colony in 48 hours...permanently.

Then you didn't have fungus gnats as it does not affect them
Either that or my hydro man is misinformed
He said it works on spider mite or thrips but not gnats.

It kills everything known to man, and then some.

And this is the first time I've heard of any hydro grower having fungus gnat issues.

No argument here, I like azamax and use it.

Also, I make Gnat Bags. I buy "no-see-um" mesh by the roll, and sew draw string bags that I put my pots in. Then draw them tight around the stalk. No in, no out. Drench and call it good. Water through the bag. Simple. Always thought about selling them but have a plate full. Have fun bug hunting!

i see what you guys are saying lol. i'll hold off buying anything else and see how this works. looks pretty good so far, the strips and pads have caught about 3 dozen flies so far and now when I blow on the plants I dont see anything flying. probably could have gotten away with letting the soil get extra dry before watering and pest strips.

You've come this far. I'd add the BTI. If you eat any shrimp, crab or lobster in the next week, dry the shells, crush up and top dress with it.

Any organism will do better with a healthy immune system, so consider the barley / coconut water / aloe tea. Hard science behind this. Not some witches brew. And it's cheap

Don't care what anyone says.. Fungus Gnats aren't hurting shit.. As a matter of fact they eat rotting roots so could be considered more beneficial than harmful.

I always try to get rid of them but have had them bad throuout a grow and my plants did not suffer at all.

Mosquito Dunks and sticky traps..

The water/peroxide slows them down but they come back.
wont they stick to buds end result smoking dryed bugs same as with mites????????? untreated

That's b/c all your gnats are now deep within your soil, wait until you see what happens after you water...it'll be a big party of dancing hatched larvae.

Buy the Azamaz or Premethrin as a last resort.
