And I'm saying that more than 50% of us smoke pot on a regular basis, all age groups combined. It would be like 95% of us have tried it. The higher use that ChesusRice indicated is absolutely true. I just am not so sure it applies to other types of drugs. We certainly have our share of crackheads, methheads, and pill poppers but I don't think it is much different from hearing people.

Well... show some something that states such. I don't personally know very many people who use explicit drugs... and I have used cocaine in the past myself so I fall in that group.

If Deaf people represent one half of one percent of the U.S. population, there should be 4,000 Deaf people in drug or alcohol treatment on any given day (McCrone, 1994). There appears to be no evidence of this occurring.

1. SSDI is disability insurance and your assets are irrelevant to qualify. SSI is for degenerates that have never worked and are disabled.

your a douche. im disabled and looking for a job. ive applied at just about everywhere i can think of and i go and apply annually at 3 dozen different places. but i cant even get a job at walmart as a door greater becuz im not bilingual. ive been hired over the phone on a phone interview before and then shown up in my wheelchair only to be shot down becuz of some lame ass excuse that someone has a hard time telling me to my face. id rather not be on disability and ssi but im forced to stay on it or id be homeless. before i got hurt i was making 30 bucks an hour and paying a shit ton in taxes a year. but now none of my passed job experience (construction, demolition, telecommunications installation) is valuable to me now becuz im in a wheelchair. i go to school but the cost of my fucking student loans and the cost of getting to school is way to fucking much when im supposed to dig myself out of a hole on a rough 800 bucks or so. either eat or go to school. not very many options for me huh buddy boy? i just got the raw end of the stick becuz i got hurt at a young age. some of this shit is forced on people so they can survive. and so what. i would hide my assets also if 800 bucks a month couldnt pay the full rent in a shitty studio apartment in the town you might live in and you have no other choice but to hustle otherwise you would be homeless. some people fall on harsh times. granted some mooch completely off the government. but surely you cant think thats everyone?

Correct. Righting the ship from myths is my goal. The 95% was loosely stated to state a point but I can't think of a single Deaf person who hasn't tried pot.

My point was if someone is looking for a job then how are they disabled as defined by Social Security? One of my good friends is a Social Security disability Attorney and I know if there is ANY type of work someone can do then they do not consider that person disabled, thats why people spend years fighting Social Security, some of these SS judges think if Stephen Hawking can earn a living anyone can.

I'm a Deaf person. My wife is Deaf. I have one Deaf son (I have two boys but one is hearing)... in addition to our extended family.

Yes, I am culturally Deaf and it is important to understand the difference between a person with hearing loss and those who are culturally Deaf. Most deaf people are deafened later in life... for example... the elderly and those who get injured or contract a virus later in life. Fact... most deaf people don't know sign language. There are around 26 million people with hearing impairments but only about 650,000 of those are culturally Deaf like me. ASL is our language. Those who are later deafened already know how to speak or cope in the hearing world.

You would be surprised at how many chicks wish/claim they were Deaf. If she can hear... then the chick sounds crazy. She ain't culturally Deaf. My one year old son is hearing and his first language is definitely ASL... so I would consider him to be well-versed with Deaf culture but he'll never be culturally Deaf because of the simple fact that he can hear. There is a name for people like him and that is CODA, (children of Deaf adults). Personally, I think CODAs are the most amazing people in the world for the most part. The way they can effortlessly jump in and out of the hearing/Deaf worlds. Your ex sounds real culturally-friendly.

hmm.. last time i got in this argument i got brained by a hot but incredibly crazy bitch, but here goes:

the cochlear implant lets deaf people hear, i should think that would be a good thing. they are no more a plot to steal your deafness than glasses are a scheme to rob blind people of their blindness.

my gam gam was blind, and i assure you if some guy in a lab coat offered her a chance to see by installing some electronic eyes she whould have jumped at the chance. if some other blind person called her a sellout for getting the ocular implants he would be a dick, and if he wasnt blind, i would punch him in the nose. if he used some of the language i've seen about people with cochlears, i'd flip out the lights (just to be fair) and fuck him up.

thats just my opinion on the matter, feel free to flame away now, but i doubt youll be satisfied. last time i had this argument i finished off with "How do you know im shouting? Remember? YOURE DEAF!" just before she hit me with a baseball bat.

Nobody is saying his plight is your fault. The point is to air out the stigma that the disabled people face. I consider his struggle to be greater than mine because people can SEE his disability. Nobody can see mine until I start flapping my hands. They see him in a wheelchair and get turned off. There are many who succeed and continue to succeed like Hawking but his success is truly microscopic in the real world of discrimination. There is a very real world of capable people who are being left behind because of that stigma. Deaf people can do anything but hear. The paralyzed can do anything but walk. People focus on what they CAN'T do instead of what they CAN do. The example that we are held to is of those that are truly extraordinary like Hawking.

I bet most of your friend's clients are people trying to "pose" as disabled. Ummmm... I'm an alcoholic. Ummmm... my back hurts. Ummmm... I have ADHD... etc. These people greatly outnumber the actual disabled and thereby get a REAL bad rap. Especially since the enactment of the ADA (which is a piece of shit law that discriminates instead of enabling). People are pissed off... and I don't blame them. They're just taking it out on the wrong group.
