Couple Q's. how quickly will freshly cut clones show sex when flipped 12/12? Also, could I just throw the cuttings in a cup of water and put them in 12/12? Thanks

They'll take as long as any plant.
And no you can't just throw some cuttings in water and flip to 12/12..not if you want some bud anyway ;)

in my exp once a plant/cutting is switched to 12/12, it'll take anywhere from 3 days to 10 days to show pistils.....
I have not gotten any males as of yet, so I cannot tell you how long before the dudes show some balls.
If you take clones AFTER the momma shows she is a female, then you already know.

I suppose you could just throw the cuttings in a cup of water, but why?
you would eventually need oxy, nute's, etc...

it takes around a week..males show first. the plant won't start flowering while just sitting in a cup of water. the clones have to have a week to get roots and then another week of 12/12 to show sex.

So 2 weeks...but if you try to clone in just a glass of water you are looking at 2 weeks or better to show roots...no sexing til the clone has roots.

Thanks for the good info everyone. I wasn't really clear, Im taking these clones to find the sex of my 7 plants in veg, but yeah I would like to keep them alive so they too can produce for me. I'm gonna dip the cuttings in super thrive and then clonex rooting gel. Could I put my cuttings into my grow media after this? Roughly 50% coco, 40% ffof, and 10% worm castings. That may be a silly q, idk.

My clones usually show sex 5-6days earlier than plants grown from seed of the same variety. In other words, I have grown a Qrazy Train plant from seed, taken a clone off of it and let the clone root for 5 days and then vegg for another 5 days. Same day clone was taken off of mother, she was put into flowering tent. It showed sex at day 10 in flowering tent. Same day, the clone was moved in right beside mom and by day 5 clearly was showing pistils. And it wasn't just because mother was a big plant and clone was a small plant, because I have also grown a clone in a bigger pot with extended vegg time and she also showed sex early, by day 5 of 12/12.
My clones also finish a week earlier than same plant grown from seed, which is the main reason I took up trying to keep a mom or two and taking clones from her. I can get 1 more harvest in per year now, than when compared to before when I was just using seeds.

How long do you guys keep your humidity dome on your clones? I won't be able to see me roots so Ill most likely keep the dome on for ~10 days

I have a 20watt heating pad under my clones and a dome on top. I put 6oz water in the little black bottom of the container, then put in my clones in solo cups. Put the dome on with both "breather" holes closed and keep it that way for 2-3 days. Until the clones have gone from droopy to upright. I open the dome and check the water level as well as let em breathe every 12 hours within those first few days. By day 4 my clones look good, so i open one of the "breather" holes on top of my dome about 1/5 of the way so that humidity slightly drops. By the next day (5) my clones are usually rooted and i just take the dome off and let them bask under my T5 lights. Sometimes i have one that needs to go back under the dome for a day or two you just have to always keep very close watch on them.

Note: I use 16oz solo cups with unamended organic soil for rooting. And I dip my clones in a rooting jel right before i stick em in the solo cups. Screw rooting cubes, lol my soil does it just as fast

if you are going to clone straight into soil the clones will need a dome of some sort, or just a baggie over the top of them...the only time to not use a dome is if you are using some sort of water cloning method...like a cloner, either with sprayers, or bubbles, whichever...but if cloning in soil or rockwool then use a dome.

Well at some point you will see your clones start yellowing really bad at the bottom..this is your signal that they are rooting, so you can usually take off the dome at this time.

yep that is usually day 3 or 4 for me....bottom leaves look like shit, but the tops will be pointing towards the light and looking fairly lime green.

Cool stuff, you guys are tons of help. I got 2 clones right now in personal domes (chopped 2 liters) sharing a 45w 5500k cfl. Just did one, and took the other clone yesterday.
Off topic, does feeding veg nutes thru leaves by spraying the plants really do anything?
I water with nutes and super thrive with each watering, and I also spray the leaves with nute water about 4 times a day, but I'm wondering if that's just a waste of time

You don't need a humidity clone at all for vegg. Just try to keep your vegging area around 65% humidity then flower around 50%

You will know when it roots, believe me. You will start seeing side branches forming. Just look for very small green leaflets starting to form. And the top will be healthy looking and start proliferating. Feeding your clones anything whether by soil or leaves is COUNTER productive at this point. You WANT your plant searching for food, so that it's roots fan out.

I don't feed my plants anything the first 2 weeks of life, only increase container size.
