Chesus, I can deal with your comments, because I can read your posts and tell that you're a reasonably intelligent person. At least it seems there is a measure of thought when you type, and I appreciate that.

This didn't start with me saying my brother died "fighting for your freedom". I simply said it was men LIKE our MARINE friend that die for our freedoms. Not him specifically. And I don't like insults to men who served.

As for dealing with Josh's death, I will continue to believe that he died for something greater. It's simply how I choose to think.

I am sorry he didn't die in Afghanistan for you so you could show a measure of human compassion. And you would have been disappointed anyway, because he never killed anyone. He was 88 MIke. Just a poor fucker three months from getting out of the Guard and finishing his masters degree that was forced to go like the rest of his unit. And go he did. Not because he wanted to. He was scared as hell. Guess he was right to be.

When you enlist, you go where they tell you. Your only other choice is Leavenworth or some such.

So as my final response to you in this thread I will tell you that my brother signed up for the Guard in 1996 as a means to pay for college. Six years. He got his degree, we were kind of proud. Got accepted to UVA for his masters program...smart kid. He was due to get out, but it seems he accidentally received too much money from the G.I. Bill so his choice was reenlist or pay back. No problem, he reenlisted. 1 year and nine months later, 3 months before he was finished, a war broke out and his unit was activated. He didn't hate the Iraqis, he could have cared less. There's another year for ya due to the stop-loss. Then another year. He never made it through that second one.

Now I personally don't give a fuck whether you sympathize or not. You obviously have no frame of reference.

ps...you can have the last word, this is my last response to you. I simply can't argue with a person whose IQ hovers around room temperature.

Honest to God brother, that was NEVER my intent. I didn't even bring it up until a later point, and I've commented on this thread from the start. He will always be a talking point for me as he was the best of us (my brothers and I). No hard feelings. Be easy and may all your trees be green (and resinous) :D

i believe that living in a country like the usa you are taking advantage of benefits that have been paid for by society

that paying taxes is contributing towards your usage of it

its a bit like going to the supermarket and stuffing your face while you walk down the isle yet trying to leave without paying for it

The point you may be forgetting. I have a choice of IF I will go to a supermarket. Then I have more choice of WHICH supermarket I will use.

Paying taxes ? Okay you have NO real choice in what will be done with your money which is TAKEN. You okay with the mix of "goods and services" and "bads and disservices" the government provides? Hint - this is a pot forum, your tax dollars buy jail sentences for peaceful people, no? Bombs for babies too....I'm not okay with that, are you?

Really? Ever try to just leave a country or enter one?

All that aside... most people have NO CHOICE of not paying for the "bads and disservices" do they ? You seem to fail to address this, why?

I took as he was refuting your supermarket comparison. If you had stated in order to get milk and bread you had to buy lard and outdated prunes you would have better described how taxes are like going to the grocery store.

thinking upon it i would say a restaurant is a better analogy

rob is looking for a service where he orders exactly what he wants and a chef cooks it for him

whereas the reality is closer to an all you can eat buffet you pay to be allowed to eat and choose what you want

now he might not agree with the selection of the people next to him but he gets the bits he needs

Yeah, I like the buffet analogy. We see some who will eat just what they need while others gorge and hide a little extra in pockets and purses because they can get away with it.

In our buffet, we have no competition, some pay the average price, some pay 100's of times the price and others actually get paid to eat here, but we all get the same cheap, shitty food.
