I harvested approx. half a plant that was about 90% cloudy. with the rest clear and very few amber.
But none of the hairs were drawn in. Was it to early?

Hairy bud and clear trichomes means she was still putting out new growth.Im sure it will still get you ripped but you missed out on the final plump.

so if the hairs haven't receded thats mean it was to early? what if 99% of the hairs were red dark orange?

You are fine. The hairs that turned dark orange will most likely turn brown and fall off the bud when dry. The hairs that are off white and light orange will turn darker orange / red when dry. The bud still matures for a few days off the plant. Trichs that are clear can cloud up, milky ones can go amber etc.

Also most people now days over ripen there plants. They like to grow heady strains and over ripen them to get a couch lock buzz instead of growing a couch lock strain. Maybe folks just like to be stoned instead of high?

Anyway I bet you dig your bud when it is dry and smokable.

Trichomes are fine outgrowths or appendages on plants and certain protists. These are of diverse structure and function.

90% cloudy with some clear and amber is a perfect time to chop. Whether the hairs are receded or not is meaningless. Some folks will wait for the hairs to recede and end up with way too much amber which is degraded THC. This issue can be argued and debated forever but cloudy is good and the more of it the better.

Dude i harvested 7days ago, exactly same situation. Almost all hairs browned and trichs mostly milky with some clear and no amber. I left a few buds on the plant and chopped all the main colas placed them in a big cardboard box and the plant sitting in bottom of the box, complete darkness. Everyday i have checked the bud with 100x microscope and checked both cuttings and the plant and the difference of trichs and maturing was more or less the same, except the plant buds now had some dark red trichs, and cuttings have some slight change to amber.

I tried smoking some of the buds already, basically couldn't feel a thing using vap or smoking a joint. Even though the trichs are now amber still no real difference in high. Then i dried a small bit carefully over a flame and this time smoked it, quite stoned :)

Getting your dank nice and dry is what will give you a good high, just keep checking the trichs and when you are satisfied with the amount of amber you want to 'deactivate' the plant more or less and remove the excess water, still not quite sure how i want to do it, i know my oven will hold 50c was thinking of slow curing it in there, tbhed i don't really want a heap of amber, couch lock am teh gay :>

Will you guys stop spreading the misinformation about amber trichs. Amber means your shit is DEGRADING, not getting better or producing more of a couch lock high. You can't make a sativa an indica just by letting the trichs degrade.

Now, that being said, when I look for the right time to harvest is when I first start seeing amber trichs, couple percent not 20, or 50 or 60, if it were bannas you'd be harvesting mushy black skinned bannans. This tells me that it's probably time to chop or was a day or two ago because I have pushed the production of cloudy trichs as far as I could go and am now cresting the other side where things will start to go downhill, so thats when I bail.

I have a kush that will couch lock your ass by day 30 into flower with not a single amber trich in sight, because it has nothing to do with amber trichs.

Completely agree. It is sad that with all the harvesting info on this site and people still don't understand that milky trichromes = THC.
