Well I've been doing some thinking and I think I'd rather stay where I am. Let things settle out there and see how it goes. I mean why give up 400+ acres of land that this spring/summer I can have a hay day with :D
 
Yeah there was a big boost all at once... it's slowed a bit now... can't wait to see how it turns out... I was hoping for more impressive mass down the stems... I thought side lighting would help more with that than it seems to have done... now thinking side light will work well with well-scrogged heads in front of it, but maybe not so useful in the traditional 'supplemental' role, aiding the lower bud sites down the stems... We'll see, maybe it will fill in a lot more and I'll eat my words...
 
All five seeds germinated with no problems... much better than last time. :facepalm: I'm sticking to wet paper towel, just gotta make sure not to let them sit more than two days. I had nice fat tap roots coming out, but no little roots tangled in the fabric yet. Perfect. :) I've moved all five sprouts to solo cups in the mother chamber. I know what I did wrong last time with the soil starters anyway... egg-cups too small, not enough drainage, they basically drowned and molded. Whoops. Lesson learned. gonna be very careful with these babies.

Also spent the morning mixing and portioning enough soil mix to fill the four 5 gal. bags and one 3 gal bag, plus the five solo cups, of course.
 
I just planted 4 new beans this morning that came from a good friend ;) You know who you are buddy :D

Hope at least one of them is a girl, fingers crossed.
 
Losing a lot of leaf but the buds are growin. The yellowing could just be from crowding, but I think it's more likely that my ph is quite high still and I'm basically battling it down with every feeding. My soil's runoff is consistently reading about 7.5 even though I'm putting in 5.4-5.8 through. I even did a double watering last time with a light dose just to bring the ph down, but ph was still coming out high on the tail end of that.

I read something someone posted about too much worm castings bringing ph up... seems like maybe I nailed that, because I did add extra worm castings in the mix at the bottom, trying to be smart and give myself the edge by having extra nitrogen waiting for it later in flowering... but of course, that was short-sighted, as the roots grow down there long before late in flowering... and as soon as the roots were occupying the hotter soil, I bet I started seeing a combination of nute burn and ph swinging out of control...

I've got a soil tester in the mail to check out the soil ph more directly, but this is the best lead I've come up with so far. I keep thinking i'm burning them, yet at the same time they're dropping leaves and yellowing out. I'm sure I'm way out of balance, overall. I've stopped feeding grow nutes entirely at this point, but it's too late, the damage is done between the grow nutes and the extra worm castings, I think.

I don't want to waste a lot of nutes flushing with nutriented water just to watch it go down the drain... what I'd like to do is just ph down with lemon juice then run that through until the ph shows lower in run-off... then put thru a normal watering's worth of nutrients after the ph'd water has mostly finished running through. Would that be effective? I know the roots are sensitive to sudden changes in the root environment, but I'd just be bringing the ph down to the same level it gets with any feeding anyway... then feeding at the end...

Considering that... or I'll just keep feeding without another flush and hope for the best before the end... might just keep feeding for now, see what hte soil ph tester says, then consider a heavier flush...

It's a mix... off the top of my head: 6500k, flora sun, red sun, flora sun, 660nm, flora sun, 6500k, flora sun, then pretty much the same thing mirrored down the other side of the fixture, except one of my red suns died and i put a fiji purp in for kicks.

Keep runnin round in circles in my head envisioning different setups for the next run. Best bet overall is to stick with the dome scrogs but make them more into "box scrogs" with 90 degree angles to keep things nice and parallel to the side lights. I will have to move the side lights back down a bit so that I can get more width out of the situation. I want to make sure I'm able to get 5-6" between the screen and the light on the sides for colas to grow outside the screens.

Anyway, so, instead of pursuing the idea of side-lighting the lengths of the main colas, I'm going to go for mad branching and try to fill every square inch of both the top and the side of each rolly. (The inner sides with no light will just be empty flat sides that abut in the middle and "connect" the two halves of the upper canopy.)

Getting a good idea of what I did wrong this time, haha. I will make sure i have buffer space around the screen this time, which will actually increase the side footprint in the process, since there will be some spread.

I think this will work... it'll be interesting to see how it goes. I'm going fim the kids young, get them branching outward, and then LST one side downward in veg... keep the other side growing upward... or maybe temporarily train it down just to encourage more branching and stretching, then let them back up before they go in the screens...

Checked seedlings this morning, they're all just barely starting to raise their heads.
