Radio is still important today??

When a natural disaster happens (like Sandy hitting the East Coast), and
power is knocked out and cell phones become pretty useless and internet access
is non-existent, only then do people realize that radio is still important in
this day and age, as the way of getting important news info and updates....

Even though technology is always moving forward, I think people will still
need a battery powered radio (or hand cranked or solar powered anyway) in times
of natural disasters, as mother nature is still more powerful than mankind, and
always will be....

What do you think?

I think if the radio industry was smart, they should have asked Apple to put
a radio in every iphone and iPad...

Wait, what? I realize every day how important radio is!

I've never owned an mp3 player and dont have much of a cd collection, so radio is all I use. I dont even have a play list setup on my youtube account. If working on site, I still carry a small radio with detachable speakers. Looks brand new but it's really 15 years old. No digital read outs of any kind and all analog dials, so it should last forever. Somedays I dont even care whats playing, I just need the noise in the background to keep me sane.

Every day routine...

Wake up then downstairs to the bathroom, grab the remote for the stereo, tea is steeping and I'm rolling in the deep ....the radio is ALWAYS on.

I have a crank radio for emergency type situations.

I listen.to.npr all the time i hate todays music and when im at work i listen to old rap on pandora.....so npr and pandora are all i listen to

NPR news is on right now. That is nice. My station also carries various PRI (Public Radio International) shows. Plus they have real DJs including volunteers. Find the right station, and public radio is a lot more than just NPR.

Too bad about the music, though - to lump all that is being created into "today's music" and then pass it all off like that. Oh well, at least that is better than listening to some of today's music.

I enjoy listening to scanner radio. You hear the police dealing with all kinds of random stuff. I once heard a call about a lady accusing someone of stealing her clothes. I instantly thought, panty robber!

Yeah, after the ipod was invented, I only used the radio to set my transmitter station.

depends what you listen to....

not everyone likes the sound of country, but to me, country lyric writers are really good. Songs like Concrete Angel, Live Like You Were Dying, I Hope You Dance, etc.-- those songs have deep meaningful lyrics.
