How poor have you been before?

We were poor as kids and my mother (God rest her soul) every day around three o'clock would untie the dog bone from my sisters neck and put it into a pot of boiling water, my sister was so homely not even the stray dogs would attempt to take our dinner from around her neck.
And you walked, 5 miles to school in blizzard conditions...everyday.:-P

I was really poor growing up. We where the third house from a four line elevated train. Pretty much ate once a day except when I was in school, I was one of the few kids that actually ate there school lunch willingly. Used to eat breadcrumbs or sugar with a spoon for a snack.
When I was 10 or 11 me and my friend went to the store (his parents where loaded) and he bought some candy, well when he bought the candy these other kids saw that he had money, so of course when we left the store we got jumped. They hit my friend a few times and he willingly gave up his cash and then they turned to me and one of them said "Leave that poor whiteboy alone. He aint got shit." so they left me alone.
So it just goes to show, when life gives you lemons, dont take them out in the hood, cause someone will beat the shit out of you and take them from you.

When I was a child, my father was moving us around different cities looking for the right hustle. We were staying at relative/friend's houses and renting motels. Lost everything when the stock market crashed. Could of been really rough there if we didn't have family to help us out.

Pops had education, got an entry level job and worked his way up high enough to leave and start his own company. He's got that money maker mind. Grew up poor and made sure to never let himself stay broke again once he got out the poverty trap.

ok so maybe it wasnt SO bad because i was living in a apartment on the beach in florida but i was pretty much completely broke living off 1 dollar chicken pot pies from the corner store and tap water.
Broke food choices would make an excellent thread all on its own...

I ate gross stuff when I was young... I didn't realize the importance of a healthy diet then.

I got these cans of spaghetti variations... o's, rings and such...
If I remember correctly they were 48 cents a can (2002). I would buy a 5 pack of plain bagels for 99 cents (again, 2002).
A can and a bagel or two was a 70-90 cent meal. I would dip the bagels in the spaghetti x's and pile it on top of a bagel like garlic bread with a meat sauce..

I actually liked it at the time. It makes me sick to think about these days.

Well I am very poor right now. I was only able to get the ES350, I wanted the hybrid, but oh well. Also, I have to sell one of my condo's in Brazil because I need the cash. So there's that.

Once when I was a kid I had to leave private school to go to public school for a year. That sucked.

Poor is relative.
