Recomendation Please!

Hello,
I would like to use LED's for my vegetative growth. I have a 4x4x6.5 foot high tent.
My intention is to use LED's for the first 55 days on 5 Mango Hayes from Mr. Nice, then switch to 400W. The problem is I never used LED's before and don't know what to choose. Money is an issue, but so is quality.
The first phase, the vegetative phase will be in 1 gal. containers. I will be trying The Rev's "True Living Organics" from start to finish. I need a recomendation on LED lighting.
Thanks, Gene

Follow the Revs recommendations if you want a worthwhile grow , I remember that he likes the Blue Hortilux 400 Halide bulb , but I can not remember what LED's that he hypes up .. To be honest if you are low on cash I would not waste the precious money on cheap LED units .. If you want a serious unit maybe look at the Apache or others that compare ..

Being that you said money is an issue , this might not be affordable and you may want to look into something more practical and worthwhile such as the fluorescent for seedling stage . I dont know but one old man that has stuck to LED lighting and I know hundreds of growers .. They all frown on them in the end and I myself as well ..

I got 240 watt HTG supply black rectangle led and it veges plants nice and stout and bushy. 270 about with shipping, itll do two plants nicely with two you could make five fit if you put them in a dice pattern probly. Works nice. Then i flipp em to HPS :):):)

Well that $150 is for 4 x 50w (42 true watts each) which includes driver, heatsink and reflector

There are a few of us using these multi chipped SMD LED's around the place. So for example they are made up of 50 x 1w LED's in a close knit matrix style.

They even make custom ones so you can get the perfect spectrum you want.

^^^^^These are 100w ones

I use 10, 30 and 50w floodlights...check out sig (2nd one) :)

For what your doing, I would go with a T5, thats what I use to veg my seedlings. A 8 bulb 4ft tubes fits perfect in the tent for vegging. To veg a couple mother plants I do LED.

T5 like $150, cover whole tent for veg. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Bulb-8-Tube-T5-HO-Grow-Light-Hydroponic-2ft-4ft-48-Bloom-Veg-Fluorescent-Lamp-/290695215481?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item43aec8f979

LED, need 2 too cover whole tent for veg. You could use one, but then t5 would preform better. 140 true watt led. I use these, get them for about 125 shipped. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/BlackStar-LED-grow-light-240W/537290491.html
I use these to flower. I ran 4 of these in a 4x4 with great success, now Im doing 8, with couple warm cfls thrown in. Great lights for the price.

Spectrum I use if curious 12:3:3:20:38:4:, (6000k : Blue 460nm : Purple 430nm : Red 630 : Deep Red 660nm : Violet 730nm) I've tried different spectrums, I grow Bubble Hydro lollipop totes, I try to get the full spectrum because plants grow healthier. I've tried lights with to much red in it, and plants werent as healthy, they showed deficiencies. With the spectrum I use, plants grow healthier

Hope I helped in some way.

Thanks for the input from everyone. I need to do more research on LEDs.

Swiftowl11, do you use the T5 8 bulb through the entire vegetative growth? Of course many don't veg for a long period of time. I want to veg for 55 days. Would the T5 work for that period with 5 plants?

ProfessorPotSnob, I may just go with the Eye Blue 400 watt from start to finish.

Thanks to all

Don't go with the Horti blue....go with the Philips all start 330w CMH instead

I have both and the CMH kills it.... way better spectral distribution and is open fixture rated unlike the Horti blue which needs a glass shield robbing you of 15% total light output....

works in the same magnetic ballast as the Horti.....it's a no brainer

what kind of lighting would work best in those dims for autos? I know someone selling a 1k dual arc but, it just seems overkill.. don't know much about LEDs except whats on my reef tank. could that possibly work for veg if ever needed? its 270w 48"light bars. royal blue, blue, and bright white. don't know...

Holy crap I missed the $$$ is for 4. Damn that's awesome for security lighting. Do you have a thread using them?
