i think my seeds died

i was soaking them in water
after the first night the roots popped out on 9 of 10 of them
the next day i looked at them, they didn't get any longer
today is day 3, it still looks as if they are the same length
i put them in wet paper towel, how long should i give it before i would know i killed them?
any ideas on what might have killed them as well? i used tap water, but i used it before and those seeds worked fine, the only thing i can maybe think of is that it got too cold, but i dont think that was what would have done it, i keep a heater in the room they were germing in, it stays about 75-83 degrees in there

Any ideas on what killed them? A days long swimming party? Light on the roots? Jesus H Christ people - just pop the seeds directly into peat plugs or rockwool cubes. No swimming parties or paper towel gigs are needed. Buy a heated seedling tray with a dome and get going if need be.

Have you EVER seen a farmer planting a field with jars of corn soaking in water? Soy beans? Cotton? Sorghum?

Get them into some type of medium asap and you may salvage a few. I killed a few doing what you did and then trying to use a dripper setup and stg cubes. I know better now.

As for me, I soaked them in a cup of water and the moment the hull of the seed split (usually 24hrs or so), It went into the starter plugs and I have had a 100% success rate on seedlings from that point.

As stated in the post above, the soaking step is not really needed and the only benefit it adds, if any, is maybe a day or two on germination speed, but that is all.

It would be easier for people to help, and polite to the person who posted this thread if you start your own thread.
Give us some pics if you can, and tell us everything you can about the plants, growing conditions, how much, what kind of light, watering habits, etc.

That's because they are malting the barley, not trying to grow it. That malted barley will be brewed and not sown.
