Is this bad? First Grow/Post/Everything

Hey RIU, Ive been lurking here for the past month or so soaking up as much info as possible from everyone. I'm finally starting my first grow and I can't help but be concerned about my first seedling. It sprouted roughly 24 hours ago and the leaves are curling down and in, is this normal?. They are in a 50/50 mix of FFOF and Happy Frog with two 105 watt 6500k CFLs, I watered them a tiny amount this morning with tap water that sat out for a day, and didn't see any noticeable change.

These are feminized White Widow from Nirvana.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, and I'll post the full details and pics of the grow room later if when I get some time. Thank you in advance!

Looks like heat to me.
Fan?
Temp?
That's WAY more light than you need right now, how close do you have the bulbs?

Like Bakatare said looks like they are burned/burning. Assuming you did not load them up with fertilizer there is not much else to go wrong this early. Keep the temp down around 80F.

Thanks for the replies, the temp in the room is 73.3, no fertilizers. There is no fan blowing directly on them but there is an exhaust fan pushing the hot air out as well as an intake fan that blows cold air in from the crawl space below, you can feel the air circulating by holding your hand out in the room. right now the bulb is 3-4 inches away but last night I had the lights closer to 2 inches away so it sounds like that's my problem, woops. Hopefully she can recover!

These are the smallest 6500k bulbs I have, would it be better to turn one off for the time being?

(Edit) - I turned off one of the bulbs so now its under just one 105 watter

I agree, looks like you're burning you baby, you do need a small fan blowing a little on it so as to "jiggle" it, that will help to strenthen the stem, those intake and outake fans will not do the trick, good idea abt turning one lamp off, you don't need that much light right now.

edit: I mean your intake and outake fans are fine for air circulation and remove the heat, but still you need an other fan.

Don't kill her with kindness. After germination there is a one week period or so where they are still pretty fragile. Don't even think about fertilizer. Roots are still very shallow so keep it damp at least 1" down. Not rocket surgery but don't go poking around unnecessarily. Mist them once a day and add an ounce or so of water each day. They germinate and poke their head out and look around for a week then will just take off.

Thanks for Tips!

I ran to walmart to grab a cheap fan but apparently they don't sell fans in the winter time, go figure. Gave her a quick mist and tomorrow morning I'll track down a fan

OSH (Orchard Supply Harware) has clip fans for $10. I just picked up a couple cause its winter and they're on sale.

If you read what alot of the other guys say you will be fine. I keep my temps a little warmer at this time 78-82F and like to keep the soil nice and moist, humidity up def. over 50%, no fertilizer except superthrive -2 drops/gal. and like the other guy said, get that other light turned off. Use the one, gradually adjusting it every few to several days by an inch or less. A light breeze ( not too strong ) will help strengthen it up, it's good for it to have to fight a bit IMO. One thing that's very important that I didn't see mentioned earlier was that air from the crawlspace coming in. It could now or at some time, be contaminated and you don't want bugs or bacteria coming in man! Buy some cheesecloth for the intake, cut it up and triple layer it, securing it tightly with tape on the end down in the crawl. This will filter the air while still allowing a high flow to come in, spores and any airborn problem will be blocked. Hope she makes it man :D ~BCbuddy420 :leaf:

Thank You for all the help guys! BC, the crawlspace air problem did cross my mind a couple times, thanks for the cheesecloth suggestion I'll be getting some ASAP!

The temp was 70 degrees when I opened the door this morning. Her round leaves are still super curled but she is definitely still growing, so that's a plus!(I hope)

(edit) I added a fan this morning so she now has light breeze running across her.

Those round things, cotyledon, actually aren't leaves they function somewhat like leaves but IMO are not that important overall. Did you cut your lighting down a little?? Seedlings don't need a ton of lumens at this stage. Good, you have a fan on now so as long as you understand how to feed and water it properly you should be ok.

I'm starting to feel a lot better now! Thanks for the input! Right now I have her under 1 x 105 watt cfl (its the smallest 6500k bulb I have)

For next time just remember little plant ,little light , little water .......and so on ...the first 3 weeks is the hardest so afyer that u should get the hang of it ..i use transparent cups for a seedling so u can see how much moisture and how much root mass u have to consider before watering ..good luck with ur grow
