2x1000w in a 5x5??

My flowering tent is 5x5 and right now i am running 1x1000w hps in a cooltube. The problem is i like too keep my grow perpetual so i have some different sized plants in there and its hard to spread my single 1000w across the whole canopy I really think if i cram another 1000w w/ cooltube in there i would get some redic dense buds. My ventilation is good, i run it at about 50% power and im at a constant 75 degrees, and even if heat becomes and issue i can always add another inline fan.

Anyways, i know most people would prob say 2x600 would be enough.. but what do you guys think about 2x1000 for a 5x5? Maybe i should consider adding a 600 instead? or just selling my 1000w and buying 2x600s?

Overkill? Would i just be wasting my electric? Could this benefit me in my situation?

i run perpetual, and have the same space, i use a 400mh (for blue spectrum) and a 600hps red spectrum, they both sit side by side, as plants go into flower, they do under the MH, 4 weeks later, they move over to the HPS, creating a crop every 4 weeks :) and it works a treat!!!!

i think you would be wasting electricity. be lucky to up your yield by 30% using 100% more electric. up to you though...peace

if you have a 5by5 room i think 2- 400 watt lights would be great because there good for a 4by5 space and you can use different light spectrums and still save electric

I once ran 3 1000 lights in a 6 by 7 room and did 3 lbs but I agree that maybe another tent would be a good option if u have the room.

thanks for the reply's everyone, unfortunately I have no more room for another tent. I'm thinking of going with the extra 1000w, but getting a dimmable ballast this time. I really think the added coverage will make it worthwhile! I don't expect to double my yield, just improve quality, Id be quite happy with 30% increase to yield though! This 1000w just isn't reaching to the edges of the tent like I thought it would.
I also thought about changing the cooltube for something like the magnum xxl hood, but I just cant see that being enough. IDK though, that's why I came here.

Psh overkill is underrated these days. You jus gotta know how to utilize it. Main issue will be heat. Dont underestimate how much hotter it will be with the added 1000w. A 15 degree temp increase would be drastic and potientially devasting. High heat and plants dont mix well EXCEPT under conditions of elevated co2. Im sure you're aware of co2 so i wont explain but basically, if you increase the light, you'll want more co2. Co2 will also counteract the heat issue.

FWIW, I have 1600w in a 4x4 tent (20 more watts per sq then 2k in the 5x5) with co2. Plants thrive. Keep the tents at a nice 85-90 with +1500ppm (i like 2k :P)

Oh and by they. An extra 30% is well worth the extra 1kw/hr. Especially if you're already gettin large amounts. Thats an extra

This is great info, thank you! I am not currently running a co2 system, but its certainly a possibility. In your opinion, how important do you think co2 would be to this setup? I get the basics of using co2(Like you said, I need higher heat, need more light then usual etc...) but I have never used it. I am hesitant to over-complicate things more then i need because this is still my first year growing. I think all i need is the tank and the regulator? I actually have a 20 pound nitrous tank, I wonder if i can get it converted somehow or if I could take it as-is to get filled. Always more research to do! to the internet!

Hey Boss, your bets off buying a CO2 bottle the CGA 326 fitting on a nitrous tank is not the same as the CGA 320 that is on CO2 and would require re-valving not cheap!!!. Once re-valved you could use it. CO2 can be placed in almost any tank, and is often placed in the older tanks due to its lower pressures. NOS is up around 1800 PSI so the tank is over rated for CO2, I am pretty sure there is an adapter out there prolly like $30 that you could adapt a NOS to a CO2 Aplication however the pressurized gas business is super safety concious for obvious reasons and would likely cringe if you asked them to put CO2 in your Frankenstein NOS bottle hee hee. Unless you get to know a guy and tell him you were making Nitro beer kegs and you want to switch back but you thought you would try and keep the bottles. Good luck Boss I would think it would be cheaper and less hassle to get a regular bottle.

exactly what i was thinking. u get more points of light and more lumens with 2 400s but id also suggest a magnum hood like you thought. i also really like the yield master 2 hoods. they thro a nice square footprint and the glass is ez to remove and clean. i would not do 2k in one 5x5 tent. its a waste. maybe add a 400 in but more than that u will have heat issues as ive tried a shit load of lighting combos in my 3 4x4 tents. i run 600s in summer and 1000 this time of year. in a perfect world u have 2 1000watt dimables but i think we all want those lol

One more thing if you consider getting a new ballast check these guys out, http://www.solis-tek.com/ Internal timer and a remote control, and if you have more than one of them they work cooperatively on start up, they start up one at a time in sequence so you don't start tripping breakers buy having a pile of watts coming online all at once.

u could also raise ur smaller plants so the canopy is closer to even. ive found paint cans full of water to provide a sturdy base. or build a small shelf around the perimeter to set the shorter plants on. adding a light is really a last option man but if ur anything like me ur gonna do wat u want lol. good luck

Especially for the Strains from the mountainous regions as they developed the resin production to make up for the lack of protective atmosphere in the higher elevations, I plan on doing this with a Pakistani Chitral Kush, some time soon hopefully.

Basically, if you just want to improve yield a bit than go for 2x600w and be done with it. The extra 200w wont effect temps to much and the extra coverage will be good for those corners. But if you want to do it big with an extra 1kw in power, you'll NEED co2.
i use a generator outside of my tent which is in a sealed room. The air circulates through the tent and room. If your tent is not in a sealed room than seal up your tent and inject co2 through bottled methods. I've never used a bottle and regulator so I have little insight on it.
Don't over complicate things for yourself if you can't afford too. Co2 is generally a hefty investment. Used improperly, it can be extremely wasteful too.
