I'd say there isn't a huge difference. FIM is more high stress training, while LST is obviously low stress training. I LST because all strains respond well to it. Some varieties don't respond as well to topping or FIM.

LST is a safer, less stressful route that works just as well. So that's why I stick with it. Just my opinion though, I'm sure some prefer topping.

do both at once lol, nothing says you cant fim and lst. actually i would think you would get better yeilds by fimming and lst together. your creating more tops all the while bending to create an even canopy. just my .02 cents

Top and then train the side branches that grow out, then lastly train the tops when they grow out. Keep the canopy even. Don't know what nameless is talking about, they are completely different, but work great in conjunction with each other. If those branches won't flex; pinch, bend and then tie down.
Here's an OG that won't yield for shit unless it's topped and then bent/tied down.

I fimmed and lst my white lavender that mutated and split into2 main stalks on its own. There's a lot of new growth coming. I have a thread with the mutation called mutated conjoined twins leaf. There's a leaf and mutation shot.

I think that FIM and LST together would take so much veg time that you might as well do one, flower and start another batch.

Depending on the strain, normally it adds about 2 weeks of veg time, which isn't much considering with a low yielding strain it makes the difference between harvesting 1-2 oz compared to 3-4. Totally worth the extra little time for me.

for example...trained and supercropped, my Sour Diesel can put out 10-11 oz's @6weeks vegg and 11 weeks flower.
my untrained and un supercropped sour diesel only poroduces 2-3 oz's @30 day vegg and 11 weeks flower. so with 2 evtra weeks of vegg and a little training the yield quadruples...to each his/her own tho...good luck.

It adds NOTHING to veg time, the node you FIM, which is usually the tallest ones, will slow down of course while the other nodes explode and increase in height , to make an even canopy, i just did this the past few weeks ...will it increase yield well I'll be finding out soon, if it does or produces the same as Lst..i did both techiques.

I do both fim and lst together while in veg outdoor. I just try and keep height below 8’ total w/pot or 6.5’ (just plant) and try to get them to be as wide as they are tall w/o the pot.

LST in my opinion.

You can be super aggressive with LST if you're on top of it since the new growth is so flexible. Can just keep pulling the main top down and around until all the side branches become mains and then you're off to the races. No need to top if you keep up with it...though yes its much easier if you top/fim first and then LST.
