First Time Grow Journal

This is my first grow and I know I'm going to need a lot of help so I wanted to post a journal kind of thing...lol.


I've got 10 Master Kush seeds and 10 Australian Blue seeds. I'm planning to grow 3-4 Master Kush. I have a rubbermaid container that is 18 gallons, an air pump that is good for up to 100 gallons and 2 big air bubble disks. Is 100 gallons too big of a pump? Also I have 4 netted pots that are about 3.75 inches. Are they too small? Do I have to change the pots when the plant is bigger? Or will 3.75 inch pots do?

For lights, I currently have two 150W equivalent soft white CFL's that give out about 2600 lumens each. I also have one 120W equivalent bright white CFL that give 2000 lumens. I will probably be buying a couple more CFL's. Are these okay? I hope to get an HPS up by the time for flowering.

I haven't bought any nutrients yet, I'm not sure what company or what kind to go for. Any suggestions?

I'll upload pics tomorrow. This is my first grow, I've been doing a lot of reading but because there's so much info I'm afraid I might have jumped in too soon. Anyway, I have a decent idea of how to set it up. I wanted to post a grow journal thread kind fo thing so I could upload pictures and get help and advice from different people.

poon joon good morning your pump should be fine im using a pump for 80 gallons in a 12 gallon it works ok for me cfls are they the 30w theyll be okay just get a few of the more is better as with nutes its all personal preference organic/chemical additives (voodoo juice ect.) but remember marijuana is a weed and wants to grow anyway ive had a stray seed grow outta the gutters before now happy growin

ps. you might wanna try soil first as it is more forgiving or at least keeping a soil mother cloning is really easy if wou knock up a little cloner theres countless designs about have fun peace and pot!

For your first grow I'd get 6 different nutes/additives. As you become more experienced you can shop around. My recommended list would be:

General Hydroponics- Micro 1 gal
General Hydroponics-Grow 1 gal
General Hydroponics- Bloom 1 gal
General Hydroponics-PH up 1 quart
General Hydroponics- PH Down 1 quart
Hygrozyme -1 quart

You'll need a GOOD Ph meter and A GOOD TDS/EC meter if you want to do this right.

I was going to go with soil at first but people kept telling me to go hydroponics and I found the simplest hydroponic system I could (bubbler). I uploaded some pics because I wanted some tips, advice, criticism. I'm all ears. As for cloners/cloning, I'll look into it.

I have tap water in the reservoir right now. I don't have a TDS reader but I live in NY, I don't think the water is over 200ppm but I don't know. I was told if I leave it for 24 hours it would be good to use. A friend of mine today told me to use a dechlorinator and pour some in and it will dechlorinate. Can I do this? Anyway, I'm going to let it sit while I germinate (starting tonight). Should I start with 1/3 of the recommended nutes before I plant the germinated seeds?

I'm hoping to save up for an HPS for flowering because I won't have enough for MH lights for vegetation..so I'll be adding some more CFL's (soft white, day white, bright white matter?).
