History ?: Who do you believe were the first Europeans to settle in North America?

Was just watching this show on History channel about the Great Lakes Copper and they produced real hard evidence that not only was Columbus or anyone from his time not the first Europeans to "discover" or settle America but it was actual a culture credited with being the first European Civilization ever, the Minoans. They showed a broken tablet from the Newberry(MI) area that at the time of its discovery was intact but was damaged and in pieces some how since discover, but they could still make out proven Minoan script on the Tablet that was thousands of years old. Not only that but copper carries something like a fingerprint and by testing it's exact purity, you can determine where it came from geologically. They took copper from the only proven Minoan ship wreck and compared it to copper taken from the upper peninsula MI and it was a exact match. Not only that but when future European settlers mined MI's copper, they found ancient mines from thousands years before when they first explored MI.

It's not really that big of a deal as far as history goes because when Columbus and other settlers came over is what made America what it is today. But it's just interesting because I always thought the first Europeans that were to step foot on North America were in the time of Columbus, not thousands of years before. Also makes you wonder if some Native Americans were descendants of Minoans.

however i will say the Minoans where the greatest sailing nation of their time. But they where like the Atlanteans of the era, tales talk of a huge storm/earthquake/volcano that wiped them out.

I guess I shouldn't say I hated History, because I was always interested in it. Heck I took a history class in college over a psych class... not a good idea. I just was not that good at remembering dates and names. I was more of a Math person.

If you're talking about that show with the quack forensic geologist as the host then take it with a grain of salt. First of all there is no archaeological evidence to back up his claims. Secondly he makes crazy wild assumptions based on the slimmest of clues. He also stated that the Celts were here and created an American "Stonehenge". The point is History channel has a lot of crap on it now a days. if you believe one show that means you agree with ancient aliens & monster quest too.

it is possible they where there but until they find real evidence its just a conspiracy. no way to prove it wrong but no way to tell for real.

His entire premise is based on a sketchy carving that depicts a bull which MIGHT be similar to bull representations in Minoan culture. It's not even known if the carving is authentic. Several experts have claimed that it's a hoax. Everything the guy says is bullshit.

Those were serious questions btw. And no I don't watch any of that BS, I watch the SCI and sometimes the Discovery channel, stuff like "Life", "Africa", How the Universe works, shows like that. I was watching that because I live in MI and it sounded interesting. And of course if no scientific proof is published it is mostly a conspiracy but I would venture to say a lot of the conspiracies out there while blown out of proportion, have some truths to them.

Well then it all depends on what your definition of America is. I tried to refer to his landing in North America, which now that I think about it isn't even accurate, should have said Central America. Here, we'll just call it "The Americas".

Well you should look up cold fusion. A scientist who's career was ruined 20 or so years ago for proposing a bunk theory, there has been some claims accepting his ideas lately. Those including the pentagon and a few other scientists . But the debate still remains questioned
