Here's another fun fact, when George Washington and his men were starving and freezing to death in Valley Forge the Oneida Indians sent food and women for comfort and saved their asses from death. Also Ben Franklin sat with the Iroquois to learn how their political system worked so he could help draft Americas constitution. The founding fathers kinda fucked it up though by not including women as decision makers, hence all the dumb ass wars we get into.

I have several relatives that were extras in Cheyenne Autumn. Most of the natives in that movie were Navajo and Apache. Some of the "native dialogue" is pretty risque and they got away with it. We used to sit around and laugh when we watched the movie. Hilarious.

The story of the Peace Maker whose name isn't supposed to be said outside of the council, takes three days to tell properly. Hiawatha was given the message of peace and it took 5 years to convince the 5 nations with Ta'da d'aho being the last to convert. Hiawatha had to tell him he wanted the Onondaga to be the the 'fire keepers', the capital basically. This was after Ta'da'd'aho had Hiawatha's wife and children killed. It's said that Hiawatha also had a speech impediment which presented it's own challenges but the peace maker chose him when he was found in mourning over the loss of his wife and child.
