The Car Talk Thread

Wanna talk dream car? How about that sweet '37 Rolls from Goldfinger, but with a modern V12 drivetrain, say from the S65 Black? (And tasteful suspension upgrades to match ...) cn

you like dussies too cabbabineer?? idk, i can't get into that style of car, way too big imo.. i know my uncle loves dussies, but like i said, not really my tastes..

I love those grand old between-the-wars Rolls and Bentley-class saloons. So elegant, house-roomy. A Maybach looks like a diabetic Avalon next to one such. cn

i dont like the car itself but with a modern v12 drivetrain....ill drive anything thats extremely over powered and have a thing for "under dog" cars. something like that with a newer v12....no one would ever expact that lol

can you imagine driving one of those things though during the times they were made? just think of a huge ass car like that on extremely narrow roads which of course may or may not of been paved..

I love the concept. Each Doozy was a handbuilt one-off, and the drivetrain of the J was decades ahead of its time. (Double overhead-cam straight 8. I salivate.) But I think of it as too much like the current Rolls Drophead: ostentatious. Somehow the English kept it classy and understated at the same time. I admit this is a pure matter of taste. I just don't care for the chopped/channeled look of most of the Js. The Europeans built those grand airy greenhouses. cn

couldnt be any worse than driving a new exotic today. for some reason all exotics these days are like twice the size of a normal car lol. at least back then you didnt have to worry about a ton of traffic and idiots driving around you.

Armstrong-Siddeley Star Sapphire. I fell in love with this model when I found out about it. We've gone from karts to ships of the line, no? cn

yeah, i didn't even think about modern traffic.. very true.. :D

more then likely back then, you had the entire road to yourself, which was good b'cuz they more then likely took up much more then their half of the road.

lol ya when you had on coming traffic back then you would have to slow down and put your outside tires off the side of the road to pass.

yeah, i really like that each one of those was all hand built by specialty coach builders.. a concept we don't see too much anymore with the passing of some of the more famous names such as Karmann, Hebmüller, Pininfarina, and Scaglietti, back when a one off wasn't just a term, but a real work of automotive art...

and lol at going from carts to the clydesdales that pulled them in a few short pages.. :D

that's the thing about cars i love, they can all be so different, yet have that one thing in common that attracts me to them..

I can tolerate that (the E-type was never a favorite, but the D-type made me moist) but please for the love of Wilbur, nobody sing any praises of the Avanti. The AMC Pacer was prettier than the Avanti. Imo. cn

To cleanse the palate of Studebakers:

i like the d's as well c/n of course, but i've always had a soft spot for the e's personally..

and fuck yeah dro, you know i love my ferrari's, especially the 250s.. i will however admit that ferrari did put up some pretty fugly cars as well as some simply beautiful.

and the avanti's? omg, i think i'd lump them in the same group as the veyron's as far as looks go, maybe even uglier, if that is at all possible.. :D

lol i like the ferrari GTO episode of top gear. they drive the 2 newer GTOs but their insurance wont let them drive the original "real" GTO like i posted because they are way to expensive and couldnt afford it if they wanted to.
