island plot??

I'm assuming when you say island you're talking about a tiny,tiny island on a lake. I mean what kind of a Banana would fill his water jugs at a shoreline unless it was a lake? Nobody in their right mind would grow with salt water!
So if you want help & ideas brah, you're gonna have to be a little more open about your location etc.,etc..

I suggest that perhaps you should grow closer to your home base. You sound like you're not gonna be able to check your patch often. Don't expect miracles if you can only tend to them once a week, or so.

Bottomline , you're gonna have to pack in some good soil. Pick your spot, and go dig your holes one week or two before you plant.

nope its not a tiny island its arond 70 arces and very secluded. I do plans on digging holes and backfilling with good soil unless i can find a patch with good soil already.. I dont think were on the same page here since im in canada and its mostly all fresh water here..

okay, but your island is on a lake right? Like Vancouver Island? You see I live on a semi-tropical island, and we are surrounded by salt water. I just trying to get a mental picture of your place.

I will suggest to you like I do everyone. Don't dig holes!!!! Use grow bags, they offer a better situation. You discover someone snooping around your plants that you have in holes. You are limited with your response. Either you surrender you patch to the intruder, or you confront the individual. I have found out that confronting these "rip offs" usually means you will lose your patch. But with 'Grow Bags', you just move them anytime you feel the "girls" are in jeopardy...finish the story!!!!

aright sounds good, what kind of grow bags are we talking like burlap sacks?? If im gonna use grow bags then whats wrong with jus large pails/pots??

yes it is freahwater.. What do you mean about suspending hemp buckets in the bull rushes??

if there;s no island, but bayou instead, I'd drive 3 stakes into the bottom, and suspend your bucket (if on a river you need floatation-llke a float valve)...you want to keep a steady waterline regardless of water level(in the river). suspend a 1/4' mesh 'basket' in the bucket about half way down hanging from the rim. run some cloth as wicking material to the bottom of the bucket. you have fresh water, so that problem is gone. put a 1" hole(or holes) about 4" up from the bottom of the bucket that will be your water line...the bucket goes up and down with the water level on a styro-float, and the wick draws water up to the soil in the basket.we can call it a hillbilly swamp bucket! there's gotta' be some kinks with the 'float' mechanism(murphy's law), but hopefully you get the picture.

you definitely need to use foxfarm ocean forest soil. it about $11usd a bag, but is WELL WORTH IT!!!!!
oh and grow bags are basically plastic bags shaped like pots with drain holes at the bottom , they hold up well wen filled wit soil.
Also are u gonna have to worry about animals eating ur crop? ie deer/mice/rats?
if so ur gonna need to make chicken wire cages for your plants.
beleive me it sucks to find ur crop eaten by a goddamn deer or some other fucking animal you will be ready to burn alive after u see what its done to your crop!!!!
You dont want a fuckin peice of shit gopher chewwing the bottom stalk in half!! (which i have had happen, and it was a tragic event)
fuck those little animals that ice entire crops over!!!!
