Some Advice Please To A Novice

High everyone - I had been on this site a few weeks ago and someone said "don't even bother asking any questions until you read all about it" and suggested Widow Maker's instructions. I have limited time on the computer and need to know some very basic things FAST. Please bear with me, this is my first time growing a plant.

The plant was given to us when it was about 6 inches high. I agonized over whether it was male or female. I agonized over lighting and all that stuff. My husband went and bought a 4 foot fluorescent light fixture and there are two fluorescent bulbs in it, 40 watts each so that makes 80 watts on this baby.

The baby is doing really well, she's growing! I am POSITIVE she is a female because those two little thingies are at every single joint. I have just seen this within the last week. She's reaching for the light, she doesn't look too skinny so I think she's getting enough light.

Question: Can I pinch this plant to make it bush out more and yield more bud? She is in a little pot now, but tomorrow I'm going to transplant gently into a large cat litter bucket (yes it's clean) with Miracle Gro potting soil. Do I hear any objections yet? I guess my main question is how do I get her to "fill out". Oh yeah, she's getting 12/12 lighting right now. When do I start with the other kinds of lighting? How long?

Anything anybody can say to help me I would appreciate. I need to get everything just right. There is no more money to go buy new lights or fixtures, the fluorescent tubes are all that we can do. Please help and don't think I'm a dummy - this is just my first time. I'm a "virgin" grower!!! Thanks for anything you can tell me.

first of all i would put it in a can bigger than a liter, like a 5 gallon bucket or mabey a little smaller depending on how big you want it in the end, and you can pinch it two make it develope two stems, then when the two stems get big you could do it again, but i wouldnt do it too much more than than becuase you want to make sure it has time to recover, and i would also consider getting a better light system, like a 150watt hps or something, or mabey a few 100w cfls, or you could keep the floro tubes, but add another one in there with another light of the spectrum, like a warm light floro. but an hps would be the best once you flower it.

If growing cannabis was easy, pushers would go out of business and there would be no "drug problem". You MUTS read 101 questions already asked!! Now to your issues, forthwith; the two thingies at each joint have a fancy ass biological name. Which no one here, with perhaps three exceptions, would recognize. Those THINGIES are NOTsex determinate, yet are frequently confused as (female) pistils. So I suggest, Madame, that you place the plant on a strict 12 hours - 12 hours light cycle. You, and all the rest of us cheering on your success, hope that real THINGIES appear, miraculesly, in the preflowers. After which, the preflowers will be referred to as female flowers, but not cocaNUT fonds. Further, might I suggest, that you dearie, and your Mister, invest in some Miricle Grow Azalea plant food. The liquid formula comes for the pincely sum of about $4 (American with stupid state sales piracy included), at Lowes.

For future referrance (I know you are a busy queen) be aware that cannabis behaves like a toemahtoe and swills nutrient like a bleeding flower. Water every thrwee days with rain-water or tapwater that is 48 hours old. ph said water to 6.2 is preferred. Add Azalea food every thiord time with the water can.

PM me if you have other issues. I will answer when I'm sober.

Thank you both so much for answering! First of all, I did indeed read the 101 questions already asked, but I got really confused, could not put my whole mind on it because I was getting very distracted by IMs coming in from work! And yes, I admit it: I am an airhead! Because of this: :joint: LOLOLOL Can anybody else relate? I bet all of you can!

Okay, THE THINGIES, have turned out to be a FEMALE PLANT!! She has hairs coming out now and she's really growing fast. There was a friend here Friday and it turns out he knows how to tell the difference between the thingies and the little beautiful female hairs! Both of us are totally excited we have a little girl! Geez, you'd think it was a grandbaby or something! (YES, we are grandparents, have 3 grandbabies and still smokin) LOL. She grows about 1-1/2 inches a day! I have to get her transplanted. I believe our cat litter buckets are 4 gallons, maybe 5. We have to buy the big ones, we have three cats (who would just love to eat our little green girl, so they are grounded from the bathroom now and are bitterly complaining). I will purchase some Miracle Gro for Azeleas, thank you for the suggestion.

I talk to my green baby girl every time I'm in the bathroom, even go to the bathroom more often so I can visit with her. Wish I had a little stereo to play music for her - she might be bored in there all by herself! Okay, now I'm going over the edge, so I will cut this off. But thank you again, you two who answered me! I am really looking forward to not spending any more money on smoke. It's so expensive I can't believe it. I don't know the background of this plant, whether she is a clone or if she was started by a seed, but she is DEFINITELY A GIRL! :peace::joint::blsmoke::mrgreen:

Happy Times! Rho

Hey MB, just thot I'd give you an update. I've been searching for this post for awhile lol, not very good at navigating around on this site yet. She is a girl. I did the 12/12 and forced her to show me. She indeed showed me. Then I put the lights up to 16/8 (which I now know should have been 18/6 - next time). She has continued to be hairy and she's growing fast and pretty. We have picked a few of her smelly leaves and smoked them, and I hope you believe me because most of the people I've talked to don't, those leaves are really goooood. We have been heavy smokers, so it takes a lot and we were very pleasantly surprised from just the leaves. :) So we picked too many so now she's top heavy. Oh well, blame it on my brain which needs a resin scrape. Anyway, she is about 2 feet tall now, very full with side branches coming out from about 7 inches and on up to the top. They aren't huge branches, but they are definitely coming out. Lots of hairs. Big leaves but they don't have the usual 5 "fronds"? I don't know what to call them. Spikes? They are coming out 1 or 2 or 3 instead of 5 or 7. Am I making any sense? Anyway, I was told today to start the flowering process so tomorrow will cut the lights back to 12/12 and blacken the window so she has total complete darkness for her 12 hours of night. I hear they flower from 6 to 8 weeks. Do buds come from everywhere there are hairs? Gonna get some Azalea plant food and feed her good. I'm looking forward to watching this process. Well, I must get to bed, 5 a.m. comes to fast for this old gal. Talk to you soon.

You should really invest in a 400watt hps, there are 150 and 250 watt as well but the lumen output is 1/2 of the 400. you can get one of these on ebay for 125 bucks and it will be well worth it. you are probaby getting about 6000 lumens out of your floro, a 400 watt hps gives out around 50,000 lumens, and the more lumens the fatter, more dense, quick flowering, robust, bushy plant you get. more light=more chronic point and case!
my 400 watt hps ran about 10-15$ dollars a month,
glad too see anyone grow, god bless
oh yea, dont pay attention to mockingbird131313, he's a drunken moron, no one is a mut, especially not for growing

That was a very rude remark you made about me. I answered the lady's questions, while drunk, correctly. You have only made a few posts, so it is safe to assume you know little about me. What I said was factually accurate. However, you are in error by saying she must obtain a HPS rig, to achieve good results. In fact, many people on RIU get great results with floro light.

So now really, don't you feel like a moron for you stupid post?

Oh Dear Mockingbird - I didn't take ANY offense at all to what you said! You helped a lot and I appreciated it so much!! :) Stop drinking tho, smoke week. Alcohol kills, alcohol ruins - and since I care about you, please stop drinking!!! It will be five years for me and my honey on June 16. Don't miss the headaches, don't miss the throwing up, don't miss the hangovers, don't miss it at ALL! So would you please consider stopping? (don't mean to lecture)

Dearest Mockingbird - I didn't take ANY offense to anything you said! You helped me out and I appreciated that so much. No worries! I am worried, however, about you drinking. Not good, not good, not good. I say: Smoke weed, don't drink! :joint::blsmoke::mrgreen::weed::hug:to you Mockingbird!

as you can see from my upper two posts (LOLOLOL) I don't know what I'm doing, BUT my plant is absolutey thriving on the Miracle Gro potting soil. You can really tell when her roots hit the new soil. She took off like crazy and she's one happy girl. I'm three days into flowering now and a bit nervous. Hoping for the best result from my single little girl. I am not real sure, but I think she MAY be a clone. But what do I know? Almost nothing because this is my first little baby girl (green that is).

Dear rho,
Thank you for your concern about my welfare. I seldom drink very much, but was lit the night I answered your post. So I left all the mistakes and warts in it. But, I find it annoying when someone, who knows relatively little, makes a post like that guy did, calling me a moron. Furthermore, his post was factually inaccurate!

Anyway, I am so pleased your lady is doing well. As I said before, the Miracle-Gro Azalea plant food does a great job for me. The first few times you use it, you may wish to mix it about half strength. Also, consider mixing 1-2 teaspoons full of black-strap molasses into the water. No, this is NOT a joke. Some people on RIU think it helps the plants grow faster. Many people are sure that is increases THC and improves taste. So I use and recommend both additives.

Let us know how things are growing.
