Just to follow up, I've given up on trying to cure in a non Frost Free freezer. I think it can definitely be done with the right gear but that the attention I needed to give to it makes curing the traditional way more attractive. My technique was going to end up with me swapping towels and jars almost daily to keep frost at bay. I was using 2 coffee filters in place of the jar's top and that was OK at getting the desired effect and removing humidity but still needed to be changed daily. So I pulled the buds out and within minutes they went from "dryish" to "too moist to jar". I have them on a screen drying and they should be dry enough to jar later or tomorrow. I'm tempted to put them back in the freezer now, just to see if I can take more water out of them by freezing them again but I had a bud get stuck from frost on the inside of a jar this morning after leaving them alone for 24hrs, so I think I've pressed my luck with this. Oh and they do smell OK, which is a relief. But the most confusing part to me is I can buy a FF refrigerator/freezer combo for $500.00 to $550.00, but any dedicated FF freezer was over a grand. Even those little cube ones. What's up with that? One of those under cabinet FF freezers would be great, but they're like $1200.00:cuss:.

Is there any physical way to tell if a freezer is FF or not just by looking at them? Ive been cruising craiglist for those small one's you are talking about Fran, and theyre posted for anywhere $50-125 (the 3.5-7 cu. ft.) But dont want to waste my time, or money, if its non FF.

It works for me. Fran its all about the cardboard. The thicker the better. I leave the box partly open. 1/2 -1 inch opening across top of box. When I thaw the buds. I just pour them into tupperwear and leave jars in the freezer. To me I don't think cloths would work. Once they absorb moisture they will freeze solid. If you ever done that with cloths for a injury or when you have a fever....... The cardboard does not freeze. I like that the taste and smell are so much better. Much quicker too. Make sure the buds are completely dry before freezer cure.

Mini frost free freezer only ( no fridge) are like cell phones 6 years ago. The smaller they are the more expensive. They will be labeled frost free. For 24 in tall one is around $1500. You can get a brand new full size 25cu ft fridge with frost free freezer for that. Or even maybe half if you hit the sears outlet.

edit: i was messing with the white balance for a better pic of the bud. that why the background looks pinkish

I'm not sure it really matters about the type of freezer....

Sublimation will occur naturally, it's why ice cubes shrink in the freezer over time.

I would say, if your bud was too wet to jar after thawing, you might have wanted to let it dry a bit more before putting it into the freezer.

I literally just put some on a plate and put it in the freezer, nothing else. Just a plate of bud. Worked fine... lol

nice bud hyroot, too bad it has so many nanners!!
thats strain produces the ovules but they never develop, it doesn't do anything to taste or high either. I used to trip out on that and pick them out with tweezers. but later learned. I found it happens more often with very indica strains. Endurox and nug buckets dealt with the same thing several times. I only had 1 time where they got pollenated by another master kush.Bbut now I don't care. I might be dropping that strain due to it being small yielder

when water gets colder or freezes ie ice it condenses. when ice melts or water gets warmer it expands. Sublimation will happen, but take much longer without an intermediary

edit: Green I just realized you are endo

Thanks for the advice/critique gang. I just jarred it, was gonna put it back in but screw it. I've got a little out now and while it's not 100% smokable it's a bit oily and already smells wonderful. Maybe freezing your weed for even a few days is a good idea. And Beef I think you're completely correct about my weed not being dry enough before freezing. I thought it was a little moist due to the fact that it's been a while since I grew bigger plants with bigger colas, but I rather under dry than over, you know? Plus my freezer is on it's last legs and probably doesn't maintain it's temp properly. When I get my new one soon I will revisit this and do it with a box.

Maybe it's time to cruise some restaurant auctions :).

So, Jeff @ Area 51 let me know that the new panels aren't going to be 145W using Heliopto LED's. The new panels will be 165W and all CREE LED.

x48 5W Cree XPG Outdoor White R4 and x24 3W Cree XPE P3 red, each on their own circuit, so the red can be controlled separately.

Badass.
is the price the same as he originally quoted?... $495 plus discounts for the first few months.

edit: what is he using for 660nm? .. the whites or.... ? cree does not make 660 leds

Appox $500. :D

I guess 625nm shows a lot of promise for bud density. I think the straight up red/white combo is going to rock some socks.

yup, that's what I meant, meaning... how can the new light be better than the af600 I dont get it. Like I can't imagine a better light than the af600 :eyesmoke: (taking watts for watts in consideration .. I assume they will come out with a new 600watts as well?)
