Just to follow up, I've given up on trying to cure in a non Frost Free freezer. I think it can definitely be done with the right gear but that the attention I needed to give to it makes curing the traditional way more attractive. My technique was going to end up with me swapping towels and jars almost daily to keep frost at bay. I was using 2 coffee filters in place of the jar's top and that was OK at getting the desired effect and removing humidity but still needed to be changed daily. So I pulled the buds out and within minutes they went from "dryish" to "too moist to jar". I have them on a screen drying and they should be dry enough to jar later or tomorrow. I'm tempted to put them back in the freezer now, just to see if I can take more water out of them by freezing them again but I had a bud get stuck from frost on the inside of a jar this morning after leaving them alone for 24hrs, so I think I've pressed my luck with this. Oh and they do smell OK, which is a relief. But the most confusing part to me is I can buy a FF refrigerator/freezer combo for $500.00 to $550.00, but any dedicated FF freezer was over a grand. Even those little cube ones. What's up with that? One of those under cabinet FF freezers would be great, but they're like $1200.00.
