So a transplant is similar to changing a dirty diaper. In my flood and drain table the air gets changed in the bed on every watering so my roots are getting fresh air and all that urine is being flushed away. It looks like a blob at the bottom of the res after about a week. The res has a raised drain so it can't get back into the table. These plant excrements are obviously heavier than water and have a cohesive element as it all stays together in a blob.Your runoff contains the wastes of plant metabolism like in soil outdoors. Plus decomposing organic material which all adds up to acidic. Plus the only O2 many containerized plants get is in water unless you till and/or probe the soil to let O2 to the root zone.
