If someone robs your crop, do they come back to check next year?

Hey guys. I was the unlucky victim of a (partial) crop loss to robbers. Luckily I didn't put all my eggs in the same basket and the losses were just 40-50%. I was away for long stretches of time last year due to work, and somebody trespassed. I am planning to do one final garden, just wondering if robbers come back to check the place they cleaned up before. Obviously I am not going to plant in the area where the plants were chopped down - but nearby. Also, I will be in the area the whole summer/fall until the harvest watching them. Is it still worth it? Do I have to worry about getting shot and/or stabbed? My property.

I am trying to work people's logic. Would someone be stupid enough to come back again. Would they assume that I am not going to try to grow again, as its been compromised?

that would probably be one of the dumbest things to do.. find a new location, and chances are if it's your property I guarantee they are the ones worried about being shot or stabbed not you. plus if it's ur property you are authorized to protect it so id bring a buck knife or something out to ur spot everytime if u were to go back there. they also might think the person that planted the plants would really step up on security so its hard to say. id say a 50/50 chance. I would also look into buying some camoflauge trail cams

If they were dumb enough to do it once they probably will once again .. As stated trust logic and instinct , move on and continue elsewhere .. Loose lips sink ships by the way .

Its an outdoor grow with some rugged terrain in places.

my guess is it was someone you know that ripped you off
I thought about that. And you know what - I certainly hope its true, because then I would feel safer. Although the list of suspects is small as almost noone knew about it. Almost noone.

The reason why I contemplating (well, I will) in running this project one last time is because I KNOW that it can be done. I am going with my gut instinct, as 757growin said. My gut instinct is the reason for many good decisions I've made.
Last year was supposed to be the last year, but I have some tough finances that I need to take care of.

QUESTION - what good purpose do trail cams serve anyway, other than telling that person there's something happening here? So I get a picture of someone trespassing my property. What does that do? Most likely its a person that I do not know.

Wanna hear something funny, guys? I actually had a gut feeling that my project was compromised. I played it right, because if I was there at the time when the crop was robbed then I may have scared them off and they would have called the cops instead. It was a sizable garden, someone got off with at least $10,000 worth of high-quality weed ...

The reason I want to do it one last time is because I am 90% certain they did not see that I had more in another area. They would have chopped it down, for sure.

EDIT - I did a "forensic analysis" of the "crime scene". Whoever cut it down, I am absolutely certain that they either: a) grow weed or have grown it before; or b) have a comprehensive knowledge of marijuana. Judging by what they cut down and how they did it. It would have taken more than one person to do this heist, at least two people were involved.

well obviously trail cams would greatly benefit you because whoever robbed ur crop obviously had been there before during veg/early flowering to scope it out and possibly made recent trips back to it to check out the progress of it. I HIGHLY doubt that they just stumbled upon ur grow site exactly when harvest time came. A trail cam will catch them if they do come and happen to see it in veg/early flowering stage and don't take it at that exact moment they would obviously have to come back at another time so that would be ur que to either transplant or take a early harvest before they do

$10,000 chop job would take me 5-10 minutes.... How is that a two man job?
I cant get into details for the sake of personal safety, and the fact that those people might be reading this thread and if I give more clues they will identify this easily. Lets just say it was more than $10,000 ... ;) plus some of the descriptions were slightly changed ...

Learn from losing a crop. Dont grow there again... Hide your shit better. And never grow on your own property unless your legal. Trespassers are part of growing outside. Good luck.

dont grow anywheres near where you lost plants, I can gurantee you they will return. They now know that pot is grown in the area. Now, they wont just check the place where they found the plants last year, but everywheres around there, and they will probably look quite hard knowing theres a good chance you would grow in the generally same location. Ever heard the phrase, the criminal always returns to the scene of the crime. Well its true. Dont plant anywheres close to where those plants were robbed, unless you want to give them more plants this year to.

Not a crop but check this out. My buddies trailer was broken into and they stole his blowers and trimmers. Next morning he had the police out and did reports. The day after that, Trailer gone!!! they came back and took the whole trailer. 3 mowers inside and a dingo plus miscellaneous tools. About a $30,000 loss. So YES, YES they will come back. Thieves are opportunist and will always recheck for easy scores. If you plan on growing same spot I'd set up at least a deer cam if not motion lights. A light flipping on unexpectedly will usually force most to run.

Well ... the strange thing is that the robbers didn't come back last year. They didn't cut down everything in the spot where they were (they were very selective with the buds), and then I left for a week after I saw that and when I came back it was still there. My gut feeling tells me that if this was a total stranger, they would have cut everything. This is probably someone I know. Wouldn't you guys think that if you're a robber you would cut down everything?

This time I will be there ALL the time. I have a good vantage point from where I can see everything coming in and out. I will also have tricks up my sleeve in case the fockers think of getting physical.

And thanks for the advice, datguy, I will set up some kind of warning system to notify me of any trespassers. Can someone recommend me an outdoor lighting system that runs on batteries? Motion detector lighting system, of course.

You know you could always turn it around on them too. Throw a few mexi brick bagseed out there. Then return out there every so often and spray em down with something that won't hurt the plants but it'll make them never wanna steal your stuff again? Extract some oil from Poison Ivy or Oak and mist the colas with it
