When viewing trichomes...

How do you tell it's what you want? I get the idea of 50% amber 50% milky or what ever percentage ratios you want to use, but where exactly is it you look? All over? Fan leaves? Buds?

I'm just curious, I'm approaching my first harvest and will be chopping in 2-3 weeks, I've recently just ordered a digital microscope to check my trichs which has a x200 zoom.

When i check for ripeness i usually look slightly off center the dome of a terminal bud. its usually just a very general idea of where the plant is, but as different strains will have different characteristics, its very possible youll come across a strain that develops different parts at different times or what i call multiple harvest strains. in these cases you might have to check multiple specimens on the plant. also 200x magnification will definitely get the job done however, i find that most trichs can be best viewed around 60x-100x..hope i answered some questions. happy growing

The milky is where the 'candy' is. So you want to maximize the milky. As all the trichs change at different rates I find that when you have a scatering of amber the rest are pretty much milky or the majority anyway. 10 to 20 % amber is a good rule of thumb.
