I do remember nl being pine, but I'm looking for that sappy pinetree smell like the gooey stuff from a freshcut pinetree..there was not a difference in the smell of the bud or tree...soooo piney..I miss the flavor..would be like a gift if I could find it again now I'm older and wiser..I may have to get some nl and see what I can do..never worked w it before....

I have been looking for years. I am pretty sure it has vanished from the face of the earth. I really miss the old Christmas tree buds.

Swerve told me awhile back he would check into it, but never heard anything from him. Either he never did, or didn't find anything.

If you had ever smoked "Christmas Tree" you would know.

It isn't kind of piney or whiffs of pine. No, it is like cutting down a christmas tree and stuffing it into a baggie. Pure 100% strong pine.

Another strain I am interested in is the solid red strain.
Back in the late 80's my good friend used to travel to all the Dead shows. He brought back some bags of bud that was solid red.
I dont mean red hairs, I mean leaves/calyxes/hairs/stems/everything was solid red. I have never seen anything like it since. Some of the best bud I have smoked. I am assuming mostly sativa because it gave the sativa type buzz. I felt like a carefree kid full of energy and out wanting to do stuff.

As stated SFV OG smells/tastes just like a freshly cut douglas fir, with a whiff of chemmy lemon cleaner. Any carpenter will be like fuk ya!
Dinafem has one they call Diesel but they should have called it juniper, smell/taste like mandarin rind and pungent juniper berries. A little spicy on the throat but very pungent smell and taste.
Pure power plant smell and taste is of a sweet sticky pine with hints of lemon and vanilla.
Super silver haze also has a nice spicy piney smell/taste!
I noticed that the term often used in descriptors is "fresh" smell/taste to describe pine attributes.

I was under the impression that "christmas bud" was some sort of skunk, I remember it being kind of skunky though it seems that skunky smell and taste buds were actually afgan kush plants back in the day. Funny that the "skunk" moniker is found on plants that don't really even smell or taste skunky.
I also often wonder if some of those killer old school "kind" buds will surface as the legality shifts.
I remember one that smelt/tasted of skunk, rubber, and cabbage.... They used to call it skunk cabbage.... gnarly, I miss that one....

That is it, the red bud. Panama red from where? Any idea? The left side picture looked just like the buds I had. The right side is not near red enough.

I would really be suprised if "Christmas Tree" was a skunk pheno. Back during that time period I got massive amounts of both (real) skunk and christmas tree and they were entirely different buzz types. Christmas Tree was extremely visual and trippy.

Yeah I also remember Cabbage. I had a friend in Virginia who used to bring it to my area. At the time Cabbage was one of the most popular buds in that area.

I had a crop of BB from a local breeder that looked and smoked like shit but had the gnarlyest pine-sol smell to it, I dont want the bud again but everyonce in a while i open up the jar it was in and take a wiff and think about it.

I used to love getting the really piney stuff. The last really piney one I came across was Exile by Magus (1 freebie). I'm not a fan of pine anymore, I think it was just the best I had at that time but anymore I'm a way bigger fan of almost all other flavors. IMO

I remember the pine you speak of. I used to get it from a old hippy back when we were in our late teens. What I remember most is the intense flavor. I too have been searching for something like this. I have since found strains that's I like, but I could never replicate the Christmas tree buds I used to get. Good luck!

Last time I grew out Pine Cone bud as I knew it was in 92 .. Have not seen that strain since then and probably never will :(
It was a high yielding strain as well and very easy to grow ..

I've never been able to score a seed of the pine like tasting bud. I've bought the stuff all over Canada but never seen a seed. It's probably mighty mite.

For what its worth that "pine" smell comes from a terpene known (unsurprisingly) as "pinene".

Alpha-pinene, in particular is a common terpene that's found at least to some extent in many/most cannabis strains. The terpene itself is though to have bronchodilator effects. Its the strains that have a LOT of pinene, and fewer other terpenes that have that piney scent.

In my opinion (and this is a matter of taste) while there isn't anything wrong with a piney scent/flavor, that's not one I'm looking for in particular! Myrcene smells/tastes like mangoes, and that one is much more "fun", I think.

Anyway, the "piniest" smoke I've ever had was a cut of Northern lights going back to the mid '90s. I'd imagine at least some of the things labelled as Northern lights probably still have this.

A lot of the Ca Kushes have distinctly piney or piney/citrus scents to them, including some versions of OG kush, Larry OG, etc. Some cuts of Headband have a piney scent, and so do some Blue Dream. I suppose some of these probably have Northern lights genetics in there, but that's a seperate issue/question.

That Romulan that Vic High use to have (subcool has it now I believe) was suppose to be very piney, I never smoked it though.

But, the original name of Wonderbud was: Vic's Vapor Rub X Reddenbacher 413 (described as turpentine mixed with vics vapor rub or extremely piney)

It is incredibly piney, with some fruit mixed in when you smoke it. That is what they kept saying about it at Nimbin where it received special mention for extreme flavor.

Haven't grown either, but Secret Valley Seeds has "Purple Pineberry" and BC Bud Depot has "BC Pinewarp".

Not sure on the companies either, someone may be able to chime in, but they both claim a pine taste... maybe crack these and start a grow report?
