my soil recipe is pretty basic compared to you guys lol

1 bag fox farm happy frog
1/2 bag black gold perilite
few scoops of worm castings from the ole vermi bin
1/2 a 4lb bag of espoma garden tone
2 cups espoma garden lime

done deal. works great
Is it good through the whole cycle or do you need to supplement nutes during flower?

The nutrients release slowly, and need to be broken down by microbes before they become available as food for the plant.

So when you use a soil mix right away, the nutrients in the soil, can ramp up, as they become available and possibly cause some issues later in flowering, when you want to see some yellow fade.

Interesting thread!
I will be amending and reusing soil (FFOF)
for the first time and it's great to read fellow
growers ratio's of ingredients per gallon
of soil.

I think if you guys check out the RO 707 mix you will find you are wasting alot of time and money mixing your own.

I would think it would be more cost effective and the results would be satisfactory when previously used soil such a FFOF , Happy Frog etc...is amended, compared to the cost of making/building soil from scratch or buying fresh bags of premium soil.

Sorry guys but that's wrong info.

I buy all my ingredients in 50 lb bags, use compressed peat and coco, make my own castings.

And the results are better, cheaper and more sustainable. Forget the pre mixed "organic" bagged crap.

Roots is for beginners or lazy stoners.

Or people that dont feel the need to chemically re-engineer a million year old process and are happy paying a modest amount of money to open a bag and fill a pot with a product that has everything your plants need.

For germination I use Fox Farms Light Warrior

I use the following for first upcan into 1 gal pots

8 parts Pro Mix BX
5 parts Fox Farm Ocean Forest
2 part Fox Farms Light Warrior
3 parts vermiculite
2 parts earthworm castings

Early veg I use Earth Juice Catalyst and a bit of Micro + Hygrozome to feed the soil. I add EJ Grow and Hi-Brix (mostly molasses) in late Veg and add EJ Bloom in flower. I use Great White Shark when transplanting to boost myco and other micro beneficial organism. I also amend/supplement as necessary and recycle the medium.

I usually make my flowering mix heavier and hotter than my veg mix why do you have it reversed do you just feed them more like hydro.

I have found with EJ that I can do just fine with PM + perlite/vermiculite from start to finish, but starting off with FF in the medium in early veg I do not need to feed as heavily all the way through. In flowering I do feed a bit more heavily but not a lot. I think by that time the micro environment is so healthy that nutrient uptake is far more efficient in the core of the rootball and the less dense medium around it allow for greater oxygen availability. Works for me anyway.
