This is definitely the best way to go. I just did the same thing in my bedroom. I had some extra space in a corner next to my tv stand and measured it out and built a frame with 2X2's and used some half-inch plywood for the panels. I started out building the frame from some 2X4's i had around the house but found that for a small box 2X2's are a lot easier to work with and are usually less than $2.00 for an 8ft length. I spent less than $30 for all my wood to build a box that is about 2.5ft(L) X 2ft(W) X 3.5ft(H). But for the side panels I would recommend using something a little bit thicker or stronger than half inch plywood because plywood bends really easy. I just had some extra around the house that was almost enough for my entire box.I would go and get me a few 2x4's & frame me up a small closet type room/box,
Right there in one of the corners in your bedroom then. Hell, really all you would
Need would be the 2x4's or 2x2's and something to cover your frame work with, such
As plywood, drywall, paneling, etc'. Shouldn't cost you much at all! Just be sure to keep
It a decent height, or you could run your frame right up to your celing, to the floor,
So that you would have enogh room, and wouldn't have a "height" issue.. anyways, that's what
I myself would do. Then, if you ever decide to stop growing you could always use it
As an extra storage place. Oh, and you could frame up up a door way also to it, & put
You up a door, with a lock and all, so you would be the only 1 to have access to it.
Hope that helps. Later.
Why would he wann do that when he could build one that is constructed out of 2x2's or 2x4's be a hell of a lot stronger, and insted of buckeling in the center because of a few Mh or HPS systems hanging fans, & whatever else. The corners rip ALL the time on the tents, there not made well at all for the $ that they want for the damn things. Imo. I would build my own "tent" or grow closet in a corner for a fraction of the costs, compared to how much for a tent. Atleast you'd know that what you had built will stand the test of time, verses the tent. You should buy a grow tent bro . Go to your nearest hydro shop so you can get prices . You'll grow pretty good stuff in one if done right. Hope this helps. Happy growing
Once again I would have to agree with Dankster about the tents. I went with a tent for my first grow a few years back and it was built so crappy. i ended up having to build a light stand out of some 2 inch pvc to hold my cool tube. I also had to rig up a 2X4 to hold up my inline fan. but with a strong wood box you don't have to worry about all that. Really as long as you get a sturdy box put together even if its not perfectly made or sealed, you can just line the box with panda film which you would probably do anyways for reflective purposes which would seal up any light leaks . and if you have problems keeping your door to your box sealed (this was my biggest problem at first) you can just have a sheet of panda film hanging right behind the door which u can just velcro it up so it is easy to open and close back up. This keeps your door light and air tight but you still have your door for looks and stealth purposes. but since you don't need to be stealth as far as looks go, I would just use the panda film method as my door so i wouldn't have to worry about going through the troubles of making a perfectly sealed wood door using weather stripping etc. every time I had to work on my door I used a panda film door with velcro to still keep my box sealed and it worked just as good as a sealed door. temps were the same and no light or air leaks. if i didnt already spend the money to get all the materials for my door I probably would have stuck with the panda film. Just some ideas to think about if you run into some of these similar problems before you over analyze what u have to do to fix it and then go and spend all this extra money (like i did) to solve a problem that might have a much easier solution. because sometimes the easiest way can also be the most effective. Why would he wann do that when he could build one that is constructed out of 2x2's or 2x4's be a hell of a lot stronger, and insted of buckeling in the center because of a few Mh or HPS systems hanging fans, & whatever else. Exactly my point on those "grow tents" they sell. A grow tent that size would be outrageous in price. Might go ahead and grab me one of these since Im about to organize an extra bedroom that is used for storage to fit something this size. Here's my idea when it comes to "grow tents" I am getting ready to get a outside "storage building" & deck that box out, and make it one hell of a grow op!
** I wanted to just "show" whoever, be it a college student with a lower income and can't really afford a 200,400, or whatever "grow tent". I was walking through "K-marts" if you don't have one where you live, the is always kmart.com. anyways, I seen a "closet waredrob" and it was 4x4x6!! It was a complete frame, with a thick cloth "dark blue" in color cloth. I went & purchased a few of those "emergency balnkets" that look & work just like mylar, also for half the costs 2$ bucks I believe, lined in inside, ran all my cords through the back, placed a small fan in the lower bottom part, and there's a atleast 1x4 section at the top I use for my seedlings, and the bigger ones go in the other bottom half with a atleast 6' foot headroom. I placed 3 300watt CFL'S in the bottom half, and 3 100 watters up top for the babies. I will post a few pictures so you can get a better understanding of it. Anyways, I got the "grow tent" for only 22.$ bucks! Plus the extra for the CFLS + fan, all in all it ran me 40$ bucks or so for the entire setup.
