Veggie germination

DNA in general is amazing.

Think about that tiny seedling root. It's DNA is telling the root tip to multiply multiply multiply!
True but what other seed can we watch with our own eyeballs come to life from a seed state before it gives birth to whatever it's
DNA tells it to be. ...none I can think of...that's what makes it a sight to be-hold.

ultrasounds are pretty cool. when you see that wee heart beating, it changes something inside you. (you know, aside from the whole "having a separate life growing inside you" thing.)

it always surprises me when i get seeds for a tree or shrub and they're way wee compared to, say, squash seeds, which are comparatively gargantuan but grow into a mediocre sized plant. i have some magnolia grandiflora seeds and they're about 1/3 the size of my smallest pumpkin seeds, tree juniper and cilantro have similar sized seeds, blueberry and huckleberry are smaller than carrot seeds. how do they fit all that DNA into such a tiny package??

in other news, one teeeeeny, tiiiiiiny bell pepper sprout today. now my squashes are starting to make me nervous; i had to buy starts last year because i had 0% germination on my squashes and pumpkins. i even took a nailfile to the edges like they recommend (didn't last year) but not even the tiniest bit of movement yet.

GASP!
You need to check out this blog... A man CT scans fruit and veg. Amazing? Yes. Beautiful? You bet. Especially when you stoned, a bottom to top through Broccoli looks like fireworks! And that is just the start! Fucking cool.

Google: inside insides.

Also:
Seeds exude some hormones during germination, so it makes sense that two plantings could come up at the same time. The first group acts like a catch, and when they say go!, the whole crew comes along. Really, really, cool.

That MRI of the fruits and veggies is pretty kool ... Thanks !

The corn was awesome and my favorite.

Even with my warming pad my peppers took 5 days. Those little buggers are growing faster now, gotta put the brakes on and replant them soon. I've never heard of soaking tomato seeds. First time for everything I guess :)

My peppers and tomatoes are out in the florida room today. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be sunny. So the plants will stay outside during the day.
