Dry ice hash

If you try to press dry ice hash with one of those hash presses they sell in the head shops

You end up breaking the hash press. I ended up using a piece of pipe, a steel rod and a car jack with a torch to get a plug

I saw a press called Jack Puck at the expo in Augusta last year. They want $300-600 for them though. I shopped Home Depot and came up with a similar device for less than $50 including the jack. It works great!

Once your butane has stopped dripping out use a small wire or real stiff paper clip or something of the sort and swirl around the drippings it'll help the butane evaporate instead of it being trapped in small air pockets and you'll get rid of the taste and have 1 hit goodness left over. I went through the same thing till I did this.

You will still have residual butane in your oil if you don't do a better purge than what you describe. I put my oil onto a piece of parchment paper and alternate it between the oven set @ 225 and a Seal-a-meal vacuum jar. Serious oil makers use an automotive vacuum pump like this one.

Dry ice hash is the fastest easiest cleanest method to make some decent hash. Its not full melt, its not the finest bubble or ear wax, blah blah blah but if you just want to take your trim and tuen it into something you can smoke thats as good as any Afghan gold seal or "nepalese temple ball" I use a 90 micron bag so I'm just separating the good stuff 73 micron and below and then I use the "cack" to cook with because that still got everything 90 and above. There are many videos on yout tube but they say to use the 250 so you get it all. Anyway its dry and ready to smoke right away too so you don't have to dry it like you do with water.

I have tried several methods..blender, alcohol, ice and water w/ bubble bags, dry ice. I don't anticipate ever using anything but dry ice in the future. It's awesome. No muss, no fuss, much more yield. Just stop shaking when you see the first hint of green in the kief.

Might you have a description of your method for this. I am close to harvest and want to use all I can from my babies... Like an Indian.

Get a 220 bag from amazon and a pollen press, i use the cali crusher. Get 10 bucks of dry ice at walmart for 12 oz of wet sugar leaves. Smash up some dry ice. Put it in the container. I used a juice jug. Put some of the shake in and then a little more dry ice. Let it sit for five minutes. Shake it for five minutes, time it. Scrape it up and press it. Done. Pour whats left into a big ass bowl. Reuse the leftover dry ice in the mix. Reshake the whole pile when done. Oh and scrape out the jug when your done, thats good too. Should make 32 grams or so....like an indian

My method is a bit different than Ninja's, but I don't use anything wet.

As I harvest, all the popcorn bud goes into a special bowl. No trimming, I just pluck 'em off and throw them in there. Fan leaves, branches and anything I trim by hand goes on the floor or in the trash bucket next to me. All the nugs either get trimmed by hand or go into the SpinPro, then into a finished bucket to be placed on drynet. But I digress lol

The reason I explained all that was to give you an idea of my source material. All little popcorn bud really. I save it up in a big pan and let it get bone dry.

When I'm ready I get 10-15 lbs of dry ice pellets. Only place I ever got mine was Elm Ice and Oil in Falmouth. I don't believe Walmart in Maine has it; I could be wrong.

I have this little plastic bucket that my 220 micron bubble bag fits over nicely. I crumble up enough bud to fill the bucket about 1/3 full and throw in some pellets..it doesn't take too many really. 10 at the most. Put the bag over the bucket and pull it down around the bucket, so the mesh forms a cover for the bucket. Shake vigorously for 20-30 seconds..AT THE MOST!

Have a nice clean surface like a tabletop to work over. Invert the bucket and shake some more, like a salt shaker. You can also occasionally shake laterally to mix it up and sorta sift. Keep a close eye on what's coming out. It will likely be quite blonde in color at first. You will notice it start to get a green tint to it. This is leaf material that is also being broken down small enough to fit through the mesh. At this point, the longer you shake the more contaminated the end product. When to stop is up to you, and learned from experience.

The resulting kief can be heated, pressed, kneaded, used in edibles, whatever. The yield is phenomenal at least with what I use.

Fucking Navajo honestly i am at the point where more time and energy given to this project is a hard commitment. with the tent in my bedroom and lights on in the PM its been quite the experince to say the least.

So do you trim better than the spinpro? The YouTube vids of it in action show quick work of leafy buds, but how good is the trimming job? I guess my real question is do you think the spinpro is a good value?

only if you like beat up buds......nothing beats a nice pair of fiskars....course I'm a bit snobby about my stuff.....others will disagree

My SpinPro saves me a lot of a time. I really disagree with md here. Actually only about 1/3 to 1/2 of my bud goes through the machine. As you know, some buds are not perfectly shaped. You can get odd buds off of buds, leaves that are not that accessible, etc. etc. Those I trim by hand and throw in the finished bucket. Also really nice colas I often finish by hand just because. But the 1/3 to 1/2 of my bud that is well suited to the SpinPro ends up saving me many hours of work. So yes, I think it was a good value.
I got lucky; happened upon an eBay auction and got one for about $260. I probably wouldn't pay the $5-600 some are charging.
A buddy just got one of the knockoffs with a clear dome that they're selling at HTG. It works ok, does about the same job. Maybe it's because it's new, but it seems really tight and hard to turn. My SpinPro works a lot easier.

I moved from the fiskars to the ARS with the white handle. Check em out, no spring is alittle better on the hands after big trim sessions
