Hash Oil - Green Dragon Experiment

Hey RIU,

Not sure if it's a fail or not?

We used about an ounce of trim and some 192 proof Spirytus (polish Everclear) to make some very dark green, almost black, hash oil. It has the consistency of tar.

The process was fairly simple:

First the trim was frozen then chopped up.
It was put into a jar and the alcohol was poured over it till it covered the trim.
Then it was shaken and stored in a freezer for a few hours.
The very dark green liquid was then poured through a course strainer into a bowl.
The alcohol was allowed to evaporate naturally. (It took over a week for it to dry up.)

What was left was a small amount of black/green tar. Probably 3-4 grams.

We were hoping to be able to vape it, but it was very harsh and tasted weird...bad weird...almost green, like smoking raw leaves. I only took a few hits from the vape and couldn't stand the harshness and taste, but I did catch a bit of a mild buzz from those few hits.

We're not sure if we fucked up somewhere or not?
I was thinking that maybe we could dissolve some of the 'tar' into some kind of alcohol like Peppermint Schnapps or Crown Royal, or something? However, I'm not really much of a drinker. I'd rather vape it. But it doesn't seem like that's gonna work out.

We'd rather not do the iso or butane method on our next try as safety is a major concern. We have about a 1/4 oz. of shake/kief and about a half oz. of popcorn bud to experiment with, but we don't want to end up with the same results.

I was hoping we would've ended up with 'bubblegum' hash, like back in the day when BB sized ball of Bubblegum Hash was like smoking half a doob of excellent herb and tasted like bubblegum.

Anyone have any advice? Has anyone else ever tasted or made 'bubblegum hash'?

No idea but I agree about safety with oils. I used to do my bho in the middle of a field at night wearing goggles and leather gloves. My mate does his in his kitchen! Nutter! I keep expecting to read about the explosion in the local paper.

yeah, it's also possible that the butane might have other chemicals in it that might not evaporate as quickly as the butane and be left in the final product...
at least grain alcohol is 'relatively' safe.

You soaked too long and the dark black/green is chlorophyll, which is harsh to smoke and hard to remove.

Might I suggest that you use QWET extraction techniques, where the material is frozen, and the alcohol is chilled, before doing a three minute soak. Repeat for a second and sometimes a third time, for full extraction, and keep the baths separate to see the range of quality.

Here is a picture of material soaked for 3 minutes, vis a vis material soaked just 10 minutes frozen, which demonstrates what happens with longer soaks in Ethanol.
