(Newser) – You've no doubt heard that drinking red wine is good for your health. But scientists and Big Pharma alike are getting excited about putting the health-boosting essence of red wine in pill form. GlaxoSmithKline is working on a slew of new pills that do just that, the Daily Mail reports, after a recent study in the journal Science showed the huge potential of resveratrol, a chemical found in red wine. Resveratrol activates a protein called SIRT1, which is believed to have an anti-aging effect.

"Ultimately, these drugs would treat one disease, but unlike drugs of today, they would prevent 20 others," one Harvard geneticist explains. "In effect, they would slow aging." The most recent studies show the drug could help treat a host of illnesses, from cancer to Alzheimer's to type 2 diabetes. GlaxoSmithKline has developed around 4,000 synthetic forms of the activator, each 100 times more potent than a glass of red wine, and is already testing three in human trials. In animal trials, they extended the lifespans of overweight mice by 15%.

wtf? really?? i was thinking more along the lines of the girl who said to another girl at the bus stop that she was going to shoot her with her bubble gun, which she didn't even have on her at the time, and ended up getting suspended for it..

i think we've gone a bit too p.c. in this country anymore tbh.. :(
 
on the local radio show, they have what they call the bizarre files, and it's stuff like you're always posting ww, but i usually only get to listen to it on tuesday mornings..

It got thrown out the window years ago. Shit like that has been going on for years, I remember my cousin got in trouble for bringing a weapon to class.

They called my uncle and he was pissed, he had to miss work and go to a meeting at the school, he said there were at least ten people waiting in a big conference room for him.

All for bringing a weapon to class, what kind of weapon? A bent paperclip.... You can't make this shit up.

My brother got a visit from child protective services because the high school counselor had called them about mistreatment. The mistreatment? Doing 3 hours of homework every night (got low grades the semester before) for a semester. The CPS was soooo pissed off at the school counselor for wasting her time. The kids aced the rest of the year.

Not planes or missiles. Early warning capability. Afaik we are the only military to field aircraft capable of a sneak attack that has a good chance of reaching target. Planes and missiles are all about response, which requires detection. That was the trick to Pearl: we had an early-detection capacity but it ran aground on poor procedure. Our detection hardware and procedures are such that i trust them. When the funds are there, of course. cn

A woman accused of trying to kill a housemate at an Inverness marijuana farm was arrested in Guerneville.
Kelsey Lin Winterkorn, 27, was detained after a Sonoma County deputy found her inside her distinctive orange van parked near Highway 116 at Neeley Road, said Marin County sheriff's Lt. Jamie Scardina. Marin authorities came to pick her up.
Winterkorn was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $500,000.
The district attorney's office was reviewing the case Tuesday. The alleged motive has not been released.
The alleged attack occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Monday at 11 Redwood Ave. in Inverness Park. Winterkorn is accused of hitting a housemate in the head with a baseball bat while he was sleeping, taking a second swing that he blocked with his arm, and possibly taking a third swing, the sheriff's department said.The victim ran to another housemate for help, and they drove off to get him medical attention. Winterkorn allegedly chased them in a handpainted van — labeled the "Biohazard Battlecruiser" and decorated with eyes, teeth and other figures — and rammed their vehicle twice before fleeing.
Sheriff's investigators responded to the site and subsequently discovered a large indoor marijuana growing operation with more than 800 plants. The occupants are renters, and the owner said she had no idea that marijuana was being grown there.

A man's arm is lending him a hand to fix his penis problem.
Andrew Wardle, a 39-year-old British man born without a penis, will undergo three surgeries over the next year to craft a male sex organ out of his own arm, according to the Sun.
Wardle was born with an ectopic bladder, meaning it's outside of his body. An estimated one in 30 million men are born with the condition, which "usually sees a small fold of skin, less than an inch long, in place of the penis," according to HuffPost UK.
Several operations corrected bladder and kidney problems and enabled him to urinate through a tube.
Verging on suicide a few years ago because of his missing manhood. Wardle visited a doctor who said it's possible to fabricate a functioning member.

His surgeons must build from scratch a new penis that can pass urine, have feeling, make sex possible and look natural too. They’ll use a large flap of forearm skin, with its blood vessels and nerves, fold it into a tube like a Swiss roll and graft it on to the pubic area.

Despite not being able to have "full sex" with women, Wardle boasted he's had more than 100 partners, according to HuffPost UK.
"Most of the time they didn't seem too bothered - they liked the fact I could pleasure them in other ways and never expected anything in return," Wardle said. "Only once has telling a woman I don't have a penis turned out badly. She got angry and punched me in the face."
The procedure Wardle will undergo is rare, but not unheard of.
Last month, Mohammed Abad of Edinburgh, Scotland made headlines when he decided to undergo a similar surgery after he lost his penis in a car accident, according to the International Business Times.

I never worried about that.. I was more fearful of the sirens. They would have been the 1st warning to us.. it would not have done any good.. I cant recall a single under ground area there expect near Fort Griswold and that was dug in the 1800's lol

Groton was notorious for having anti nuke protestors at the sub gates and I had to walk past them to go to to work..
