I'm buying 3'X50' welded metal fencing from Lowes for $27.00 and Pond underlayment for $35.00 and some plastic zip ties and I can get
five 100 gallon smart pots for the price of 2 store bought smart pots.

Leaving the bottoms open and amending the soil under the pots to allow the roots to enter into the ground. The money I save will help pay for a couple bales of Pro-Mix.

I'll be growing some Afgooey and Oregon Grape and another other undecided strain or two.

Yeah..I looked up my prices on the smartpot website. There are cheap alternatives that won't stand up, they flop over under wet soil weight and aren't UV protected. The material I am using is the same material smartpot uses. Cheap weedblocker from Walmart is NOT UV protected and will "maybe" last a season, I can reuse these for years. I'm sure I could piece something together that's cheap..But as they say.."You get what you pay for"

Yep. That's the link I posted. Wasn't trying to claim them as my idea. They look easy to make and reusable quality. You get the benefit of air pruning above ground and all the space you need under ground! Looking forward to seeing how it works for me

I haven't ever used smart pots. Are they worth all the extra cash?
I'll know this Sept/Oct, I've always planted directly in the ground and got good results..That's not possible this year for me. I have a legal grow but I have to move my site to a protected area. Besides getting air pruned, which is one benefit over regular solid plastic pots, I think the roots will benefit from being in a warmer environment before the roots eventually work themselves into the ground. The same reason people grow in raised beds or put tomatoes in black raised containers. The "maina pots" aren't as cheap as solid plastic pots but WAY cheaper than Smart Pots from a nursery or hydro store. I've seen some monsters grown in them.

The appeal to smart pots for me is that there foldable and don't take up much room for a guerilla grow. Gotta be able to pack everything in as easy as possible
