Rats!!!!

rats don't like mint
One of my little girls would argue with you on that...well, at least as long as it took her to wrestle the mint from you. lol She was munching on little pieces of 'After Eight' last night and then running round the room like a meth head running from the cops. :-P

She is also very partial to mint Aero's. Mind you she does munch on the Sugar Punch leaves so maybe she's just an evolved little critter with the mad munchies. HA! (I'm going to go buy her some milky bar buttons - that's their favourite).

one more thing i forgot to mention, when you use a glue board/PB method, its a LIVE trap method. and its greatens the chances of the live trapped mouse/rat of gnawing it leg off to escape. so check the trap often (before bed, when you wake up, immedaitely after work). ive seen this many times in the past. one of my biggest accounts in the pas was a writer for Mad Magazine. he had a HUGE rat infestation in his attic in Fla. fakers would use his hvac ducting as highways. i cought about 30 of them, and 6-10 spawing females.

I can understand compassion for domesticated rats. We used to have a couple and even took one to the vet lol. But man wild rats get in my grow room and start wreckin' shit and things could get out of hand in a hurry.

I use fish emulsion in veg and I live in the country next to corn fields and the mice tore all my plants up about 3 months ago. they will strip the stock to knock down your pants to see if they want to eat em...and of course they don't but your plant will die...kill them bastards as fast as you can. put all kinds of mouse traps in your room.

I use peanut butter and works great.

Good luck

Anybody who uses those glue boards for rodents is a sick son of a cunt if there ever was one and there is a special place in hell for fuckers like that.

I am so sorry, but smoking Cannabis (among other things) has made me so at peace with the other critters of the world (not so much the other human scum fuckers of the world), I wouldn't even kill a spider. Especially not a spider because spiders eat other bugs. Mice\rats eat bugs often, too.

Poisoning rodents is in most instances ineffective. We've been doing it for millennia with a plethora of different substances\methods and why do they remain? They certainly have a social hierarchy as Doobius1 pointed out. Also, A single female rat can have some 5-24 babies per litter. She can do this up to 8 times per year. You do the math.
Trapping is also useless if more can get back in. That would be the key right there: don't allow entry. Repair any cracks and holes (larger than a dime) anywhere along the foundation. Use 'Great-Stuff' expanding foam\sealant to do this. Use chicken-wire and a fine mesh screen on all vents, windows, etc. Prune the trees on your property. Don't let tree limbs or branches get too close to the house, they shouldn't be near or touching the roof or any walls.

God forbid people use their brains or have any compassion whatsoever for other life which may be 'smaller' than them, yet which they take for granted every day. Rats and other rodents have given us a LOT. We've learned a lot about ourselves from rodents. Mice and rats are extremely important model organisms and medicine, especially, has and continues to use them extensively. Rats are intelligent, and they have even been trained to detect land mines!

By the way, and it is interesting the ignorance common society oozes, because while rats can certainly transmit diseases (just like cats, dogs, birds, and...humans) rabies is virtually never found in rats\mice. Same goes for squirrels. Same goes for all rodents. Scientists aren't exactly sure why but rodents, unlike other mammals, are apparently resistant to rabies infection. There have been no reported cases of a person contracting rabies from a rat, at least not in the United States. In modern times only a couple people annually are dying from rabies at all.

Bats on the other hand, are known vectors for rabies. Nevertheless, if you have bats in your attic it would likely be illegal to kill them. Bats are a highly beneficial 'nuisance' and some species are federally protected.

Interesting about the mint, Bigby. I know they sell some natural rodent repellents based on the concept. Perhaps there is a certain concentration\source of essential oils? Or you have a unique rat.

Wow, what losers.

*sigh*... Guess it doesn't really matter what you say someone's going to twist words around or be indolent with the comprehension.

Like, for one thing, spiders are catching other bugs for a purpose, not just to torture them for fun, durr. Aside from the fact that was, entirely not, the point of my response. How freaking daft can you be?

"Spider mites...and gnats..." would be inclusive of the OTHER BUGS I was referring to... and way to attack the straw man. FYI, I use predator mites which also eat fungus gnats, spider mites, collembola, etc.

If you can't see the difference between predation for survival (and among bugs no less) and deliberately harming a much larger, more intelligent animal (smarter than you) which can be dealt with in an altogether different, more responsible, humane manner: you are dumb and pathetic and there is nothing I can do for you, and I am sorry.

Otherwise, the point is I learn to co-exist with things that do me no harm, and especially the things which I know for a fact possess a certain level of intelligence and do not need to be harmed out of spite. Including harm I may ill-perceive or otherwise exaggerate or harm I myself can prevent from being incurred upon myself. But, then there are organisms which undeniably harm [plants or organisms] or which are "invasive". Ancestors of mice\rats were dwelling on this site long before my ancestors, a native part of the habitat unlike any Japanese Beetle.

So if there is a spider that I don't want around me just because and I catch it in a jar and put it outside, whereas I kill the Japanese Beetle, that doesn't make me anything close to a hypocrite.

I do not torture spiders for fun usually. I kind of like them. I tell ya though ..I am defensive about my grow room and my house too when I think about it. Not that there is anything wrong with spider-loving. As long as it is consensual I guess..

I saw about those when I was checking before giving the items containing mint to the girl concerned. She was so eager for it though, and was fine afterwards - maybe a little manic, running around the place and eventually back to me for a little bit more. There was chocolate involved in both items, plus it was probably peppermint oil, so maybe that was it. I'll have to get some mint leaves, see how they react - as they eat every leaf they've got hold of so far lol

bro im just trolling ya.. i'm not for torturing animals. just goofing.
but really.. i had a rat problem and needed to take care of it.. you'll be happy to know after 2 days still nothing in the traps. he probably scampered off after tasting that nasty squid juice.

look around your grow for small litle black torpedo looking things. about 2x-4x the size of a grain of rice (uncooked). those wouold be the droppings. look on shelves, corners, behind planters. those are tell tale signs of rats/mice.

there is nothing humane about pests. they are just that, pests and need to be remidiated asap. 1 pregnant female can spawn 10-12 babies. a month or two passes and now they tripple. its like the plague.

I appreciate your views, especially since you are definitely in the minority when it comes to human beings regarding violence towards other creatures. I always respect people who respect other life forms.

With that being said, I hope you realize you belong to one of the most violent species on the planet. Primates are usually malicious, vicious creatures by nature. Especially more advanced primates. If you don't believe me, study our closest relatives and ask yourself why they murder defenseless babies of other troops, over petty territorial disputes. I'm not saying it is right, but I am saying it is nature. We are what we are. I strongly believe in peace and harmony with the environment, but I hope you understand that there are 6.5 billion other homosapiens that don't, and that is a sad fact that we have to live with.
