 Ok, so I've been doing Soooo much research and reading regarding trichomes and I just can't seem to tell the difference between clear and milky on my actual plant... I get the logistics of them, what they are, what they do, and the difference between harvesting with no amber or with a little amber...I've also looked at sooooo many different pics as well... I even seen a pic on one of the forums here that had 1 clear, 1 milky, and 1 amber trichome and I could clearly see the difference on that pic as well, but when it comes to looking through my mag. at my plants, it's just not as plain as day as the pics are..:wall:..I can see the mushroom looking affects on most and then a few look kinda triangle or as if the head fell off and I even seen 1 amber colored 1...The amber colored 1 jumped right out at me... When I look through the mag. I notice that some have a clearer look than others ..IS THAT THE DIFFRENCE I'M LOOKING FOR??? ...But all seem to appear both clear and milky to me ... If any of you can tell me if you have any tricks up your sleeves, opinions or advice on how to really tell the difference I'd greatly appreciate it !!!!!!!!!!!kiss-ass I REALLY want learn how to decipher the difference correctly...I'd really hate to have put so much time in effort into my grow to mess it by not judging the trichs right...Thank you all so much in advance....Happy Harvesting to you all!!!!

What are you checking the trichomes with? If 40X or greater you would have to be blind to not be able to tell clear (you can see through it like nothing is in it - made of glass) from cloudy (somebody put something to cloud your water in your glass). Won't go into amber.

It can be hard to tell sometimes, especially when using a lower magnifying lens. Radioshack sells a microscope for 12.99 that does 60x - 120x zoom, making it very easy to tell which trichomes are cloudy, and which are clear, especially when at 120x zoom.. like another world.. lol

My friend, what do you mean by "won't go into amber" ? I am confused and high. Please help me with the confusion.
Meaning if a person cannot tell amber from clear/cloudy white? When they turn amber there is no question if using decent magnification.

Thanks everyone for your replies!!! and Hotrodharley, you're right I do feel blind when I look at them and can't tell the difference...I'm only using a 30x mag and it looks nothing like the one you suggested..(which I just ordered, thank you for the link) So, when I get the new mag hopefully that will make things clearer to me...I've come to really think that the mag. I'm using just isn't good for a 1st time grower...and I think I'm also making it out to be alot harder than it really is...Like I said above I do see some that are look cloudier than others sooo my guess is that those are the milky ones then...but It confuses me that they still have a shiny affect to them...Because all the pics I look at, the cloudy trichs don't seem to shine...Do the milky ones have a shiny glass affect to them as well?? and like you said we don't need to discuss the amber ones cause I seen 1 of them and like I said above, it stuck out and I could see it plain as day... but again Thanks everyone for the replies

I've been telling if there ripe just by there smell. I smell my buds a couple times a week. When they start increasing in there aroma there getting ripe. You can look with a pocket microscope and see that the trichromes are coming out of there milky stage the aroma will increase.

Milky/Cloudy all the way , but this girl never ambers much due to her Sativa lineage !

I can definitely see the difference in that pic!! Thank You for taking the time to post it for me!!! and I'm starting to see the difference through my mag..(can't wait till my new one gets here) I also think I figured out why I couldn't tell the difference..I was thinking that if they sparkled/shine they must be clear :dunce: but I now noticed that the milky ones also shine..so by me going by shine, I was not deciphering them correctly and just confusing myself even more and making it out to be harder than it actually is...I think I just had to get an eye for it......practice makes perfect!!! lmao... and I know my new mag. will help tremendously!!! again Thank You all for your help!!! it was greatly appreciated...
