Can I switch from 18/6 to 24/0?

Can I safely switch from 18/6 to 24/0?

I am a month into veg and have been running 18/6, and I have topped and FIMed a few different spots throughout the grow. What I want is to speed up growth so I can grow into my SCROG. I have read in multiple places, and seen from my own experience in the past, that 24/0 does grow 15%-30% faster in the vegetative stage.

If you don't agree with that can you at least answer my question instead.

Can I safely switch from 18/6 to 24/0 without any significant stress that would effect the plant?

Yes you can ..... No problem, your doing 18/6 so going to 24/0 wont hurt at all..... :0)

I figured so, however. I did read about changing the light cycle in veg can cause hermies and/or males in the future, I don't know if this is a myth. These are femenized seeds and I am thinking/hoping they will be fine. This is my first SCROG and third grow, I am just getting anxious!

I think everyone knows how the veg stage is, you just wanna start flowering! lol

When changing mine I do an hour per day to minimize the change. Not sure how easy it is to herm them with a change in light cycle so I always go with slow and steady

imo 20/4 has stronger roots than 24/0

Most people say there isnt a difference and that 24/0 is a waste because the plant will store energy and continue to grow during the dark period. Dont be impatient will your ladies. 24/0 will hardly grow them faster if at all. Also im pretty sure roots grow more at night. Dont quote me on that though.

i agree.. i once read some where that plants grown under 24 hours of light would grow 33% faster then those grown under 18 hours of light, so naturally i had to try it for myself..
it seemed to me that not only did they not grow 33% faster, they seemed to slow down in growth as compared to when they where getting some dark time.. idk what all happens during lights out, but ime, plants really seem to benefit from having a break in a 24 hour period, whether it's 4 or 6 hours, i don't think it makes much of a difference, but i definitely recommend one or the other after my own experience with running them 24 hours..

The only time i might recommend 24/0 is maybe when a seed has just popped the surface of the soil but even then....

I run 24/7 lights mainly because I grow in a cold basement. It helps to keep my temps up. Growth is better with constant light at least with the kush i'm running. I've tried 18/6, 20/4 and find much better growth running 24/7. As far as roots mine grow just fine under constant light. If you've been running 18/6 i'd stick with that schedule and next run try the 24/7. Here's a pic of my last run with plants on 24/7. The small one was run under 18/6 and all same nutes strain,medium. Personal choice I guess.

id suggest 20/4 over 24/0

do whuts best for you and your set up everyones setup lights nutes every thing will be diff
listen to all test things that sound good out for self before you spread it dont believe shit not even me

I just switched mine over to 24/0 about 3 weeks ago. I definitely noticed a difference in growth. I actually think my plant is going to outgrow my 5x5 tent now....anywho i switched because of what i read in the grow bible, and it made complete sense....



P.s.

I switched because I needed a couple clones to get meatier quicker, the bigger plant just packed on weight also.

24/0 will grow them a little faster, but i think it is because of the constant heat rather than the extra length of the photoperiod
the plants do not need anymore than 16+ hours, at this point in veg the leaves droop over they are sleeping, they look very pretty when they are sleeping lol
so further light is wasting light, but when lights switch off, unless there is another heat source there could be a 20f drop or so
keeping the plants at a constant 80f lights 24/0 in hydro they are faster

As I mentioned earlier to each his own. I personally see much denser and better overall growth running 24/7. This is one of those subjects which will always be debated. But, there are lot's of grow books out there backing up my 24/7 theory. It works for me and i've done several side by side runs and 24/7 kicks ass hands down!

To really observe a percentage increase in growth, you would need to do side by side experiments with everything else being equal. There would need to be constant monitoring of every variable. It would need to be dont in a highly controlled environment, with qualified personel and over a long period of time. That is, it would need to be repeated several times.

So I dont buy it when people say they have "observed a 33% increase in growth"

They see what they want to see.

Look up "light saturation", go to 20/4 or 18/6 and save yourself a few bucks. Here is the jist of it

I dont understand how people want these plants to grow faster. I find myself wishing I could slow the growth sometimes.

Growth is better with constant light at least with the kush i'm running. I've tried 18/6, 20/4 and find much better growth running 24/7. Here's a pic of my last run with plants on 24/7. The small one was run under 18/6 and all same nutes strain,medium. Personal choice I guess.

I run only CFL lighting 24/0 from the minute I take cuttings all the way through veg for 3 1/2 months straight.
Some of my OG plants turn out at 12 feet and moderately bushy. Indoors and outdoors for veg then I finish them off outdoors with the supplemental CFL lighting for inside the plants. The buds turn out big, dense and potent. I have pix of the grow to show at 12 ft. in flower.

In all fairness to the rest period. I agree there comes a point when the plant actually needs a break from the constant light. With my current strain they can take constant light till around week 6. Usually the same week I put them in flower. I think 24/7 lights are a great way to get young plants to grow much quicker than other light schedules. With a common 4 week veg period for clones. I say to those who don't agree try it for yourself. I have and hands down constant light wins. At least with the purple kush I grow. It also works great with white widow. Anyway, I guess whatever works for the grower is fine. I personally prefer it in the long run it saves me money. What takes a month to grow on 24/7 would take 6 weeks on 18/6. So in the long run i'm saving on electricity and getting great yields for the genetics i'm running.

I go 18/6 unless I'm rooting cutting's.Plants need sleep....
