A sniffer dog failed to detect a customs officer carrying 1 million yen worth of cannabis during a test at Narita airport, customs authorities said Monday. The officer had hidden 142 grams of the drug in the side compartment of a black case he selected at random on the baggage carousel to see if the dog could detect it.
The dog couldnt find it and the officer also forgot which bag he put it in, a customs office spokeswoman said. If by some chance, a passenger finds it in his or her suitcase, were asking them to return it, she said.
The 38-year-old officer was quoted by the spokeswoman as saying: I knew that using passengers bags is prohibited, but I did it because I wanted to improve the sniffer dogs ability. He was reprimanded by the head of customs at Narita.
The cannabis, which has a street value of one million yen, was in a small metal container wrapped with newspapers.
