tricks to increase female plants

So iv read that there's tricks to increase chances of getting females. Infact high times hada whole page on it.. I might go dig threw my collection now. If I recall right there were saying keep seeds in freezer for 24 hours before planting to get females along with a lot of others like cooler temps. Shorter light cycles in veg. Keep soil moist dont dry it between water. Has anyone heard of this? Or have different ways? I'm going with fem seeds anyway but curious about this still

I'm still wondering how you get a geezer to let you put your seeds inside. Doesn't sound pleasant for either of you. Then again, I let my Infant High Times subscription lapse.

I gotta say, I liked it more without the edits! :-P

Anyway, I'd never heard of that, and would be somewhat dubious. While I don't know what determines gender in the plant world, it seems like it would be something deeper within the plant (i.e. DNA, chromosomes, etc.), which couldn't really be affected (other than to herm for survival) by external conditions. I'm just guessing, though, but I'll be watching the thread to see.

No one can offer me any compelling evidence that environment influences sex determination.
I believe that sex is determined in the seed and that environment has nothing to do with sex determination. I have yet to see any compelling evidence that seeds do not have sex predetermined. The fact that feminized seeds exist leads me to believe that sex is predetermined.

I agree with Trousers.... Other than a Fem seed, the law of averages... Long term, will even out, 50-50 so it seems for me...

Gonna agree with this. That's like saying you have a son then you stick him in the freezer because you changed your mind and wanted a girl.

Well some had stated that certain conditions could help in deciding the sex. I know I have read it in more than 2 books. But in my opinion fem seeds are not that expensive. The other variables in the equation are more expensive(electricity bill...)

There is another thread going on this as well.... a LONG discussion on genetics vs environment-- BOTH play a factor... with genetics trumping the environment- but the environment CAN make recessive genes take over...

I clip out only the sexiest ladies from my gf's Victoria secret mags. They're posted all over the grow room. I never get more than 50% males

There is a company that claims to be able to determine the sex of a cannabis plant 7 days after germination.
If that is true, claims that environment weeks out can effect sex are dubious at best.

3.) Polymerase Chain Reaction PCR and Gel electrophoresis are biotechnology tools for genetic analysis. Montana Biotech has created a PCR based test for determining cannabis marijuana seedlings sex 1 week after seed germination! Cannabis sex is determined by X, Y chromosomes, kinda like humans. This test allows a technician to test for the presence of female or maleness in marijuana seedlings before even the most seasoned cultivator can tell!
