Grow Journal #8: DIY Hydro & Making Feminized seeds with Colloidal Silver

Looks like things are full steam ahead. I was curious, you plant the female you want to treat before the females you want to polinate? or after? thanks man!

Hey LG!

Most CS tutorials recommend planting the receiving females 1 - 2 weeks after you plant the treated females, and I definitely recommend that for autoflowering plants. They start flowering in about 21 days from seed, and if you pollinate early in flower then you will only stunt the plant for a few days, and it will not decrease the yield by very much.

But for regular photoperiod plants, I would recommend you plant them all at the same time because you'll be able to harvest your seeds sooner..Same goes for clones -- If I were growing from clone, I would put 2 clones in flower at the same time, and treat one with CS - the other without CS.

I would let them continue flowering together, then selective pollinate a few branches..I'd trim off the male branches and let the 2 finish together, and then harvest both at the same time.

Yes, that ppm is 130!! Thats the ppm of my tap water (yikes). I'm trying to flush out salt build-ups, so I've been feeding the ladies straight water for the past few days. We'll see if that makes any major improvements.

I also stretched out the branches, so now they are being "trained" by the SCROG. The SCROG is basically a giant LST net, pushing taller branches back, and letting the smaller and lower growth take in light. That definitely helped! Some of the lower growth has grown 1/2" in the last 3 - 4 days alone!

Today is the day I switch the lights from 14/10 to 12/12. They have been on 14/10 long enough (2 weeks of 14/10)..and some of the new growth is starting to look like flowering shoots, instead of vegetative growth. But the plants continue to stretch, and the branches are still very flexible, so I know they will continue a little veg growth for at least another week.

***Before we get to the pictures, notice how I have the plants trained through the SCROG - all of the branches have been tucked under the SCROG, I have not pruned any leaves...the SCROG stretches out the branches, and thinned out the canopy - that shows how effective the SCROG is!!

My GF knows I hurt my back at an ice skating rink last fall..and it pains me to keep getting up to check on my plants..so what does she do????

She swipes this from her job at Walmart, just for me!

It's a Wireless IP Camera. Now i can check on my grow from any mobile phone or computer! I've already started making some time-lapse videos, I'll probably post a few next update.

Something to consider about those cameras is the LEDs, probably infrared, may appear to the plants like light, so you may want to be sure that they are not emitting light during the 12 hour dark period. I germ'ed some Seedsman White Widows today and will be growing them under 600 watts in a hydro/aero system. Does that make us relatives?

I went with the Seedsman seeds feminized. Finishing their Northern Lights now, started 10 regular and got 6 females. I visited a house today where the bong sits out on the table next to the pipe next to the jar of hash next to the... And the smell was pure kush. He obviously does not have the slightest concern what the neighbors think. Livin' the life. Me not so much. Gots to be very stealth here, but that is just the way it is, life makes us pay attention. Hope to see pics of fully mature WW plants Cuz.

Colloidal Silver Treatment Continued pt. 5

The CS Treatment was a success! Everything has been going according to plan, the pollen sacks should be opening this weekend.

I've also began spraying a lower branch on my White Widow so that she will be next to produce FEM seeds. No pics of that yet, but I will post a few when I see some changes.

I noticed the hairs are turning brown on the buds sprayed with CS. This is totally normal..

The new growth is starting to curl, hairs are continuing to turn brown. I've also noticed some strange new growth..looks like some pollen sacks are beginning to form. I'll give it a few more days until they are more pronounced.

I Just bought a new Phresh Carbon Filter.

It works like a charm, before it stunk up the entire apartment...now I can't smell a thing. I highly recommend the Phresh filters for odor control.

The new growth is looking really bizarre! This is totally normal for a bud that has been sprayed with CS. Also, not how this branch seems to be stunted, again this is normal for branches sprayed with CS.

Is that connected to a 6" or 8" fan? I'm looking to supplement my scrubber (4"fan w/can 33) cause I doubt it's going to be enough in a few weeks with my skunks. I've read repeatedly people being very pleased with phresh, wondering what size/price is best.

Yeah, I see why people love them now. I have the 6" x 24" filter - it's connected to 6" fan ducting. The filter is huge and considered overkill for my setup..I like overkill sometimes, but I don't think it'll be enough for you.


Lol, you've got quite a jungle in your room. They're gonna be some giant funky bushes in a few weeks Your room might be ok with an 8" filter. Would price be an issue for you? If not, the 8" x 24" would be a lot bigger, and it only costs a few dollars more.

Yes that would produce seeds, but the seeds would not be autoflowering.

To make them autoflowering:

First you cross Cookies x Lowryder to make "cookie ryder"
Then cross "cookie ryder" with Lowryder again to make it autoflowering.

That's the easiest way to do it. You'd have to go through 2 harvest to make the strain but that's as soon as it can be done.
