How many days before I dump these seeds?

Howdy everyone. I bought a White Widow, Chemdog and Tutankhamun seed from Attitude and set up the closet in my room to grow. I'm running a 250w HPS light, and have mylar'd the inside of the closet. I bought a Burpee Seed Starting thing a while back that is supposed to take care of the watering if I keep the bottom pad wet, plus it has a humidity dome and I keep reading those are good for seed growth.

Anyway, on the 19th I planted the three without soaking them in water, and it's late on the 5th day now and still no growth. I'm kicking myself for not germinating another way since I'm scared they're not going to sprout. I have the dome under my light to keep them warm and to get the humidity up. The soil isn't getting wetter or dryer, it's just staying wet and sticks to my finger if I touch it. Is this too wet? Can my seeds get too much humidity? Really, how many more days should I wait before I call it a failure and try again?

They should be up in a day or two. If not replant. Stick the seed 1/4" deep in soil and keep the surface wet-misted with water.

A day to two? That's contrary to everything I've heard. I didn't use the paper towel germination trick or anything, just planted the seeds.

OK you fucked them up right proper. What I meant to convey is that right at 100% of the seeds I plant I put directly into potting mix and they are up 100% by the third, maybe fourth day.

It's just I'm reading people getting 5-9 day times for seeds planted in soil. What exactly did I do wrong? Humidity too high? Temperature too high at 79-81F?

Give them some time I have had seeds take 10 days to sprout if I didn't germinate them first if it is taking longer than that I would start over and germ them in a paper towel first

How deep did you put the seeds? There's a measurement you should use that's relative to the seed size.

ive had great success with the paper towel in the bag method. i soak overnight. put in a paper towel put it in a ziplock blow into it then wait a day. if the seeds are cracked i drop the seeds in my starter and im good to go.

This makes me feel a little better. I'm going to give them till day 10 or so before I start over I think.

How deep did you put the seeds? There's a measurement you should use that's relative to the seed size.

One I had a little deep so I uncovered it some, but the other two were about 1/4'.

Well i figured out the problem. The hygro-thermometer I bought came with a cord that has a reader at the end and I had that dangled in my closet. I noticed the reading being weird when the humidity raised on the outside of the closet, and I unhooked the cord and place the reader inside the closet. After a bit it read 105 F. That's way too high I know, and I took the watering tray out. Was that high enough to kill all the seeds or will they live?

Now I have to figure out what to do.

Hell it sounds fine. I'd want the temp higher until they break out. Humidity doesn't really matter until you got some leaves above ground. Just keep the soil moist and warm. Spritz it with a sprayer a couple three times/day

I generally get sprouts above ground in about 3 days 72 hours

Yeah, I keep my beans and clones at 75-80, but then 72 for veg and 68 for flower...105 is way too high, like me

As far as not getting seeds to germinate I think there are 2 reasons that cover 99% of the problems:

1) Bad, non-viable seed, dead when you planted it.

2) Overwatering. Beans want moist and warm soil to germinate. They do not like soggy wet and cold soil. They will rot as seeds if you put them in a cold soggy mix.

If the cotyledon popped at that heat (which would be a miracle) there'd be no growth whatsoever at 105... stomata start to close at 90, or are mostly closed at 90... would have to use special foliar mix to even try to keep them alive and it'd be applied -very- light, every few hours with 90-95% humidity (no less than 90%, no more than 95%) in hopes the plant gets nudged into cooperating instead of restricting CO2 -> O2 conversion which would mean the death of it as there's not root system, and no buffer.

Ive had seeds take from 2days to show thier heads to 2weeks and some never at all. Ive found the way that works quickest for me and stops me digging around in the soil is to put them in a root it cube that has been soaked in some rhizotonic or root it starter solution. Squeeze them out put your seed in then put them in a prob usually 2 or 3 days and their done.
In short leave them alone for another week or 2 then if nothing i would bin them and start again

Well all I heard was 105f. Not Insane in my book. MJ can handle that and more.

Indoor growers need to at least observe an outdoor grow and perhaps get a clue as to how tough the plant is.
