dippledink isnt an innocent victim, he escalated the shit by spitting and requiring restraints and a dose of pepper spray.
he earned every lump, and it may be shocking to the senisbilities, but that droog didnt wind up in slam for violating curfew, and the riot squad didnt take him down to chinatown for leaving his bible open to the wrong Verse of the Day

Don't get me wrong. Whatever he did which pissed off the pigs like that, I'd kill him for it. But that's the pig's job. He chose it, he knew that was a possibility. I have no sympathy for criminals, nor pigs.

In my opinion, I think he just started admitting to anything he thought would get him out of that situation. It was stupid of him to act tough in the beginning, but I'm not sure that warrants 17 minutes of, what I would classify as torture. I'm not sure someone who has never been around pepper spray can empathize with that, but I remember once, my dad sprayed some in the sink in his bedroom bathroom, connected to the kitchen, dining room, living room, other bedrooms and other bathroom. It took 10 minutes to spread throughout the house, I was coughing for 4 hours! I'd imagine getting sprayed in the face would be the definition of cruel and unusual punishment. The other guy held his head forward, then covered it with a towel..

To me it looks like he got pepper sprayed and had a cover put over his mouth to stop him spitting at people.
Its harsh, but prison officers need show no fear nor weakness.
You can say what you want about cops, etc but most prison officers are decent people and treat prisoners as real people but at the same time, they can't be seen to be weak or powerless.
Given he doesn't seem like he was beaten at all, I'd say its a necessary evil.

Just a label. No one know what torture is any more, apparently. It's a lost term. And the label. What we do is reduce it all to good and bad, that's where we are headed. Only Good/Bad, like Cavemen. The problem is we don't understand why the world resents America. We never have. We try and we want to get along because the Populist view is so compelling. We are all just neighbors and the Earth is our neighborhood...kum, by, ya.

When I hire foreign workers I'm very much the manager. I want to know what they think about the USA, the deep stuff.
They don't hate us as much as see that we are fooling ourselves and very, very un-realistic.
It's simple. To us we are tying to get to an ideal we can never achieve...the pursuit of happiness for ALL. We want to sincerely end in-equalities, to the point WE so get confused. WE think that is possible.

Umm...strictly speaking what you describe is Torment. And indeed torment is often a big dose of terror, to go with some physical discomfort to amplify the terrible torment.
So, waterboarding is torment. The Inquisition, breaking bones that will never heal, correctly, is torture. Don't need blood for torture.
It is a fine line to be sure. I draw it at this line. Does the torment result in lasting physical disability? A broken bone, not even smashed, well set, is 10 weeks or more of lasting physical disability.
Mental disabilities will result from torment, and we can be tormented to death. But, it is done in such a way, in the modern world, you will be revived. A Doctor is standing by, if you do end up drowning on a water board. Still Torment. Not torture. In fact, I'm pretty sure water boarding is a punishment for lies.

Oh, another point. I really dis-like the self described element of our culture. I deal with it everyday. If someone thinks something is in-appropriate that makes it so. If they insist my wife and family in bathing suits at the beach offends them and they report it, It's offensive.

I think someone who doesn't believe this is torture who was subjugated to it would quickly change their mind, as they would with waterboarding.
Obstructing your airway while you're restrained is absolutely torture.
Handcuffing you to a tree for 3 days is torture.
Depriving you of sleep for a week is torture.
You do not need to cause someone physical pain in order to torture them, there is also psychological torture.
