Anyone have growing tips for C99 / Sour Kush / THC Bomb / Silver LA?

Good day everyone, hope it's going well. I just transplanted 3 of 4 new strains into 3.4 gallon airpots, and everything is going smoothly. For some reason my RP OG #18 didn't germ, so I tossed it and started up the RP Sour Kush (attitude freebie), so that one is about a week behind the other 3. Wondering if anyone has any strain specific growing tips for any of these strains? Stuff like nute sensitivity, likes or dislikes training, ph sensitive, likes more N in flower, you get the picture. I really wished that I'd asked this question at the start of my last grow, probably would have saved myself a lot of headache with that CC Tahoe OG...Anyway, I've gotten some game changing advice from this site, and it's a really fantastic resource.

Okay so I'm growing:

DNA Silver LA
Female Seeds C99
RP Sour Kush
Bomb Seeds THC Bomb

As you can see from the photo below, I'm using airport (3rd time using them, I'm sold). Made a few changes...I had been using FFOF soil, but switched it up to FF Happy Frog. The FFOF was a little hot for some of the strains, and you get more Happy Frog for your money anyway. Mixed it in with about 25% perlite, and then put a half inch to inch layer of these small growstones on the stop. The growstones seem to make watering a bit more even, which can kind of be a bitch with airpots, and apparently help deter gnats. I also splurged on a 600W metal halide bulb, so I don't have to dangle CFL's all over the place. So far so good. Also bought a new 600W Ushio HPS bulb, so we'll see how that works out soon enough. Oh, and cleaned up the closet quite a bit, almost have all of the cords off the floor. It's a work in progress, no doubt.

Here's a pic, nothing too exciting to see here at the moment. I'll periodically update this thread with new photos as they grow.

Thanks in advance for any specific tips or tricks. Happy growing!

C99 from female seeds. I just entered that into flowering several days ago. In vegetation this is what I can tell you. Has rampant growth. Responds well to lst and topping. Nute regimen go light to moderate. Responds well to foliar feeding with fulvic acid. If you give it adequate light the internodes are short compared to other sativa dominant strains out there. Good luck with your grow :-)

Thanks for the heads up, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I've never gone the foliar feeding route, but may give it a go this round. 3 days after the transplant she's growing really well, but I've noticed that her leaves are a lighter shade of green than the other strains. Did you notice this at all? Also, my other strains are almost perfectly symmetrical, whereas the C99 is kind of all over the place, without nearly as distinct a pattern. Weird, but appears to be healthy. No real nutes yet, just a little DynaGro Protek for sturdy stalks.

Thanks bro, it's definitely a journey. I found that when I started growing, I went overkill on the nutes, which seems to be a pretty classic rookie mistake. I've discovered that less is often more, and a simple nute regimen makes it much easier to identify and correct a problem should one arise. I mean, if you're feeding the plant 40 different nutes, how the hell do you tell which one to back off on, or increase, or whatever? For me personally, I'm choosing to spend my cash on environmental upgrades, as opposed to the latest and greatest nutes that hit the market. That said, I'll go easy on the nutes with the C99, and plan to keep a closer eye on ph throughout the grow. Thanks for the kinds words, and all the best my friend.

Just be careful with foliar feeding do it first on an isolated area to make darn sure your plant can tolerate it. If it shows signs of burn it will slowly but surely fry your lady. And kind reminder especailly if your using HID lights spray when lights are off or you will create mirrors where the reflections will cause light burn on other portions of your plant. Yes because I was stating that strain has quick growth. Typically new growth is a lighter shade than other portions of the plant. Best of luck with your grow.

Quick update on my current grow, now that we're a little farther along with these strains. I veg'd for 4 weeks, once the sprouts popped above the ground. We're not about 7 days into 12/12, and 4 of them are starting to show signs of buds. Everything is moving along quickly, faster than I remember it happening before. If anyone has comments, please chime in. If you're growing, or have grown, any of these strains, let me know if you recognize any particular phenos, and have some words of wisdom.

Here's a group shot in the room (clockwise from bottom left: THC Bomb, Silver LA, RP Sour Kush, Female Seeds C99):

Not pictured, the RP Sour Kush, which I just forgot to take a shot of (still smoking on that Delahaze from the last harvest ;)

I'm about to knock on wood, but so far so good with all of the strains. They're cranking along, and all very healthy. I've got light on the nutes, and simplified my nutrient mix considerably since the last grow. The C99 is the bushiest of the bunch, relatively short, but she has bud bites EVERYWHERE. Only did minimal LST on all of them, and topped them once or twice, depending on the strain. After 7 days of 12/12, the C99 is the farthest along in terms of budding, with little hairs starting to grow all over the bud sites.

THC Bomb has been a hugely pleasant surprise. I read some great reviews on this strain, so I guess it's not a total surprise, but she's living up to the hype. Just a really stocky plant, with thick sturdy stems, and great structure. These branches could support some BIG buds, which I guess is the whole idea here to begin with. I can't wait to see how this one develops.

Silver LA (LA Confidential x Silver Bubble). Loving this plant, she's got dinner plate sized leaves, and an amazingly vibrant shade of green. Not as many bud sites as C99 or THC Bomb, but she's sturdy as all hell, and looks like she's going to produce well above average.

Not pictured, the RP Sour Kush aka Headband. I had originally germ'd a RP OG #18, but it never sprouted. Out of all the grows I've now done, the only plant that has germ'd but not sprouted has been the OG 18. This is the SECOND time this strain has not sprouted. I've seen some awesome OG 18 grows, and I was really looking forward to it, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Still happy with the Sour Kush, even though it was started 9 days behind the other 3, so had a week less to veg. That said, very healthy, similar in structure to the Silver LA, large leaves, sturdy stems, with less but very encouraging bud sites.

As I mentioned earlier in the post, I've got easy on the nutes so far, and kept the assortment of nutes to a relative minimum (compared to what I had been using). Currently feeding them Fox Farms Big Bloom, FF Tiger Bloom, NutriPlus Pure Black Humic Acid, Liquid Karma, CalMag, Sea of Green, and Protekt (silicone). Okay, I guess that's too minimal on the nutes, but I'm using low quantities, and trying to gain a better of understanding of why I'm using each of these, as opposed to just using everything in sight for the sake of using it. The Protekt was cheap as hell, and a new addition for me - I definitely think it's made the branches sturdier, thicker, and strong. I will occasionally reduce the Tiger Bloom by 50% and make up the other 50% with FF Grow Big, in order to get a little more N into the mix even during flower. I passed on using the FF Open Sesame on this go...it seemed to shock the hell out of the plants when I used it before...not all of them, but anything that's sensitive to nutes didn't take it very well. So I just decided to lay off it altogether. I've also got some Yellow Bottle Ooze from an earlier grow, which I'm going to hit them with weeks 4-6. Then I'll add in Hydroplex weeks 6-8, and then dial everything back after that. Also, switched from FFOF to FF Happy frog this grow - I liked the idea of starting off using a soil without the high level of nutes I was getting from FFOF. I still didn't even start using nutes, aside from Protekt, until 2.5 weeks into veg.

Haven't done too much trimming on them, although I did remove lower bud sites as approached and transitioned to flower.

Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome and encouraged! I've learned everything from you guys here at Rollitup.

Thought I'd take a sec to update this post with some new pics of the ladies. We're now 3 weeks to the day since flipping them over to 12/12, and all 4 of them have buds that are growing larger by the day. I can literally tell a difference from one day to the next, and it's right about now where things to really start picking up and getting exciting. Knocking on wood as I write this, but so far everything has been pretty easy going, with no real issues to speak of.

Here's what I'm working with:

The Sour Kush is the lankiest of the bunch, with tall but not really thin stems that just shoot upwards. SK started a week later than the others, and probably has the smallest buds of the bunch so far. Definitely healthy though, and it's too early in the game to know which one is really going to be the heaviest yielder.

THC Bomb is awesome. Growing very hearty, with a big thick stalk and fat indica leaves. If I had to guess on a highest yielder of the bunch, this one would be my pick. I love this plant, the buds are already starting to fill in.

Silver LA has huge dinner plate sized leaves, and is shaping up to be a great finished product. Very pretty plant in veg and early flower, especially with the enormous leaves.

Female Seeds C99 is a little different than I expected, but not in a bad way. I was expecting a taller plant, with more stretch when I flipped her. What I got is basically a bush, low and wide, with buds all over it. She has thin sativa leaves, and the thinnest branches of the bunch. Very thirsty, I have to water her more than the other 3, and she'll get super droopy if I don't water her on time. This one could be the dark horse that out yields the rest of the crew. With the enormous number of bud sites, there's some solid potential here. Can't wait to see how she develops. So far so good.

Decided to get back to basics on the nutes, and have been following the Fox Farms 3 part feeding schedule (Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom), adding a little more Grow Big than Tiger Bloom at times to keep the N up. Using DynaGro Protekt, some humic acid, liquid karma, sea of green, and calmag. So far, no bloom boosters. I still have some yellow bottle ooze that I may as well use starting in week 4 though 6, and I'll likely use some hydroplex in the later weeks of flower.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you're growing (or have grown) and of these strains, or just have some general advice, I'm all ears. Thanks for looking!

Happy Easter! How did that C99 harvest turn out for you? Do you have any pics? What week did you harvest? Check out my C99 at 3 weeks (just posted photos) and let me know if yours was similar...I thought she'd be taller, but she's stayed short and squat. Tons of bud sites though. Would love to compare notes.

she went a little past week 9 and foxtailed in a mighty icy fashion.sadly the bottom leaves and slight bud sites on the bottom succumbed to mildew,my best guess is drastic fluctuatin of temps between lights on/off.also a lil open window at night in the pac. NW.before she finished i had 4 clones taken of her and 1 of them is currently in week 2.ill find time to upload some cola shots to the site.

Im interested in the sour kush nute profile too, definately one of my favorite strains. I have a Headband clone going at the moment which I wonder if it is similar because they are the same strains except headband has the master kush too.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like it wasn't a total loss, hopefully you managed to get some decent smoke off of what didn't have mildew. ~9 weeks sounds about right for this strain...I've found that it normally takes an extra week more than what the breeders state in their marketing. Of my 4 plants, the C99 has the most bud sites, and is tied with the THC Bomb for farthest along in the flowering process. My C99 is literally covered in buds. I need to do more research on the different phenos of the Female Seeds C99, and see which one I've got. Anyone with any insight on this is more than welcomed to chime in.

I'm a rookie when it comes to growing the sour kush, so I'm not sure how much help I can be on the nute profile. Honestly, I feed all 4 of my strains the exact same mix of nutes, and only make an adjustment if one of them is showing signs of sensitivity/burn. I go a little lighter on the feeding that recommended by the nute companies...I'd rather play it safe and not torch them, as opposed to overfeed them and then try to figure out what the hell is going wrong. I think that less is more for the most part, and the fewer nutes you're working with the easier it is to figure out the problem should something go wrong. Also, I try to pay more attention to the NPK ratios on everything I feed, and keep rough track in my head to give them a certain balance throughout their life cycle. This is only my 4th grow, so I'm still learning. That said, I went strictly by the book with my first grow, and got great results. Then on my next two grows I tried to get all fancy, bought a bunch of different nutes that probably don't do anything, ran into various problems which ultimately impacted yield, and now I've decided to go back to basics. So far so good. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Im doing the same thing as far as same nutes for all 3 different strains im running and will only adjust if they are telling me they need it. I agree that less is more on nutrients, my headband is loving just a 1-1-1 mix of the GH flora series with a little cal mag plus in there too. Responding real well to LST as well.

Interested to hear that. Nice one for sharing. I will have a female seeds C'99 in my next grow.

I can confirm that everything he said about Female Seeds C99 is true...these have been my results as well. It's not nearly as tall as I thought it was going to be, but it grows like a bush.

I grew out the THC Bomb a few months ago. Nice strain, decent yields, and interesting aromas after cure. I used the DynaGro line up, dosing on the conservative side, kept up the N in flower at 1/4 teaspoon per gallon until last three weeks. Good dense hard nuggs too.

3 possible phenotypes...one leaning to the pineapple side..one leaning to the grapefruit side..and the homogenous variety of pineapple and grapefruit which I have and will be pulling this Sunday..my flower time was 53 days same as 3 extrema plants.

Appreciate the heads up...can you tell which one I have from my pic? Short and squat with tons of branching and bud sites. Fairly thin stems, with relatively thin and small leaves. Never had a plant that was ready for harvest before 8 weeks, but I can tell this one is a fast one from the daily progress I'm seeing.

Happy growing!

I gave my friend a Female Seeds C99, and his is about finished. I think he said he is on Day 52 of 12/12. It is a very pretty plant. Not very stinky unless you rub it. It is just covered in trichs with these huge donkey dick buds. His didn't stretch much, but it has that typical sativa structure to it. It has those colas that take up the whole branch. It looks like it is going to be a very nice yielder.

I'm growing a Sour Kush Aka Headband. It was a very slow vegger, and it didn't stretch very much as well. It has grown almost exactly like the OG#18 that I grew. The buds are pretty small and hard with a nice coating of frost. The smell isn't very strong unless you rub it. It smells similar to some Sour D that I have had in the past. It doesn't look like it is going to yirld a whole lot for me, but I am pretty sure it is going to be some high quality herb. I am on Day 42 of 12/12, and irt definitely looks like it is going to have to go at least the full 9 weeks of flower and probably longer. It isn't my favorite strain in the garden right now, but I am still happy with it.
