So are the ones on the right unopened calyxs or balls. On the left you can clearly see hairs. 20130403_165208.jpg

could be balls, wouldn't go cutting anything just yet, another day or 2 should sort things out

If they are balls there aren't too many. Would I be able to remove them. And would they constantly be coming back and would I constantly be fighting them?

yes its a nightmare, not worth the time, its a losing battle, its early yet but they do look like balls, dont cut yet cuz theres plenty of time to tell and disgard, if its your only plant, then try to manage it picking balls everyday but youll still get some pollination from t BUT if yo have other plants and this turns hermie, get rid of it when you find out for sure, it an polinate the whole crop with one ball with good airflow, my advice, but also ifyou have other eeds, i would get them going, now FEM!!! good luck bro!!! i hope its not a hermie for you

I appreciate the quick responses. Yea this is one of 2. The third was cut down today because it was just throwing balls left and right.

I concur it looks hermie man... i'd cull it if it's not your only plant.
EDIT: you could try to just take that branch if it's the only one affected also.

See this is what I was thinking seeing as most of the spots that look like balls seem to reside on one branch.

And see my other plant I swear was showing ball like structures then hairs started to appear all over and I just found this to show what I mean. It looks like a ball but more closely you can see some some tiny hairs.

hmmmm... this is a tricky one man but I would wait a few days and see what development comes through.
I recently intentionally made one branch on a blue widow with Tiresias mist and clipped just the male branch leaving the rest of the plant female :)

Listen to the others, be patient. All will be revealed soon enough. It takes a couple of weeks after balls appear before they swell and release pollen so you have plenty of time to let it develop.

Male parts look like this..

Blue Widow male week3 #2.jpg

I grew these for breeding purposes. If you see them starting to look like these; remove them. or risk seeds.
It takes 10-20 days for the male flowers to open up anyway. Just keep an eye out.

Looks like balls-- those green "hairs" aren't hairs hun- they are spurs that are at the nodes on all plants just before they sex....

Give it a few more days just to be sure-- but keep a close eye on 'em.. if it's male, the pods develop pretty fast- you don't want any popping in your grow room! ;)

i had one do this, a ball with hairs all over, that was a bad hermie, both sexes can show on the one ball, kind of a crab claw ball with fem hairs, but like we all said, gotta wait it out, it could pull into a full blown fem, the do odd things while growing sometimes, odd growth, ive seen som plants have wierd growth and turn out awesome in the end!!

Not its definitely a hair. You cant see it too well in the picture, but its like a little white string looking thing emerging. But yea I will be patient and wait. The other one was just some mexican bagseed so not worried about cutting it. They are 1 day past a week of flipping 12/12

So are you saying balls can develop to have pistils?
it is rare, but that is called the 'true' hermaphrodite
many garden flowers are true hermaphrodites, i did see one MJ true hermie posted on another site
kind of cool looking, but glad it was his and not mine

sure with some strains, the calyx lok just like a male ball, but most will be closed tulip shaped with a point where the hairs come out, BUT stress CAN cause some wierd looking growth in the preflowers also, keep that in mind!!

They have had a some little stressful periods where temps were in the high 80s to 90s for a couple days during veg. Also off topic but I have had this discoloration and was under the impression it was a mg deficiency. So last watering I added 1tbsp of epsom salt per gal. That was 3 days ago and they seem to still be bad.

I went ahead and foliar fed them with some epsom salt. But back on topic I was looking at my plant this morning and for the hell of it popped off a few of these sacs. A few had what looked to be hairs coming out. If you look you can see the silhouette of this one looping around. (Sorry was the only real way I could show since camera wont focus that small)
