Hello good day everyone. I have a question. I just had to seeds sprout in root riots plugs. I was wanting to when should someone start using nutes on your plants? I will be growing in a hempy bucket for the 1st time with the 2 plants. So since there is no soil with food, when should I use nutes. The plants are 3 days old. so what should I do now?
They'll let you know when they're hungry. Usually a week or two it seems like. Make sure you start out light on the nutes and work up if they need it. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

Edit-guess I should refresh the page before I answer questions. Lol

If you had to rule out N def, what would be your next best estimate.. :) - apologies for all the questions, just you guys are the only ones who help on RUI so I am buzzed...
I would have thought it might be calcium or magnesium deficeincy, but I didn't see any rust spots (redish brown) on the plants. Yours have that true faded appearance of low to no nitrogen.

To me they are aging but ahead of schedule, the one in the back is heading to a lockout, (or is it just drooping during lights out) so it's either ph or cal/mag.

Try adding some cal/mag just 4ml/gal to feed. If this is the prob U will see a change if not it's not enough to harm.

If you could check the ph in and the ph out the hole. If the ph changes more than by 0.2 or jumps out of range then there's something going on in your rez or medium.

Are they drying out the pots at a good pace or is it taking more days than usual to lighten the bucket?

Just outta curiosity, how do you guys store your seeds? I put mine in a tin then in a baggie. Then I put some dry rice in a plastic bowl and put the baggy in. Its then sealed and put in the refrigerator. Is that ok storage?

wow, cheers for all that info guys..

there is a difference between the ph in and the ph out, its usually quite considerable. The nutes go in at 5.3-5.8 (vary each time) and the runoff is from 6.2-6.7

I feed at quite a low ppm (600-900) which stays the same in the run off.

I am not sure why the PH climbs
I have to water every other day at the moment, usually the reservoir will have some in it, but the buckets feel substantially lighter.

Should I be watering every day to keep it topped up? Or let it dry out more often?

thanks again..

I keep mine in an airtight container (canning jar) and put in a cool dark place...but have heard the frig was an option too.

Pretty much just leave them in original breeder pack and stick them in with the others. Small brown paper bag in the fridge. As far as bag seed or seed I have generated, I try and hang on to a couple moisture packets from electronic things I buy and throw those in with bulk seed. Seems to work, haven't had anything start in the fridge.

I would agree with Watt that they seem to look like they are just aging, but it could possibly be a ph problem.

I had similar problems with my last grow. I was running my ph at 5.5-5.8, and they were yellowing pretty bad and looking like they were starting a N def. I bumped the ph up and they really responded. My ph "goldilocks" zone is now 6.0-6.3 and I haven't had problems since.

I run str8 perlite buckets also and just based on my own experience a ph slightly above 6 seems right for them. I always consider hempy to more closely resemble a soil grow than a hydro. I also let my buckets dry out real good and I also flush periodically throughout the grow. I think that the drying out and flushing helps alot with nute uptake.

Just my couple thoughts.

Edit: The ph jump you are getting might be due to excess salt in the medium. Do you water with a good 20-40% runoff? I would flush with a clearing agent or if you don't have one a weak nute mix of about 100-200ppm followed by ph'ed water 2x the bucket volume. I have 1.25g buckets and I hit them with 1/2 gallon of clearex followed by 1 gallon of water, but I flush regularly so in your case I would increase the volume of water when you flush.

I totally forgot that issue, pH lockout. This is possibly the one thing I forget about more than anything, though I have no issues with it in my grows as I feed tap water mixture that is generally 6.1 to 6.3 pH. And the only time I adjust and break out the pH probe is when I add Protek a silica blast which generally raises the pH after adding.

just can't even guess why one would start having issues when all 6 hempy's have virtually the exact same conditions & same strain.

about 2 days ago, "B" of the 2L bottles started getting brown spots on one set of lower fan leaves, this has spread to other lower fan leaves, so I'm getting more concerned.

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

cheers stoneslacker, I think I am going to try raising the PH slightly, nice to hear someone who has used 100% perlite and has had similar issues with lower PH.

I do not get that much run off, thats for sure, will make sure I get quite a bit more next watering. I have flushed them all a couple times so far, but its really hard to PH 80l of water in my situation.

Nothing too serious though by the sounds of it.

Will proceed based on everyones wonderful knowledge!

:)

I keep mine in a Vacuum sealed, Black Container in the Fridge (where you store your lettuce). I also put the seeds in Seed Envelopes and keep about 3 of those Silica Moisture packets (think that's what they're called) in the container with them.

I have all my seeds just sitting in zip locks inside a tupperware on the dresser, still germ after 8 years so I dont see a need to do anything fancy.

IS King...can't tell the height of your girls in the picture but those look like the lower fan leaves...it's not uncommon for those to get kind-of old looking as the grow progresses...they sometimes don't get much light under a thick canopy and in my case suffer from wind burn as I run my fans down low. I'm usually plucking them during week 2 of flower.

thanks for your feedback jela...
I bought some Cal-Mag today, might add some to the next feed....it's just funny that only one plant is impacted.....extra pics available in Hempy #2 link

I keep my seeds in a film cannister in the closet and them seem to last a few years at least.

Been pondering my harvest and checking my girls. My skunks look pretty much there but the rest are not quite ready. I took all the tops off of a Skunk and all the tops off of a Sand widow to sate my desire to cut these girls up lol. Im going towait another week or so to do the majority of my harvesting. This Sand widow is some of the nicest smoke ive ever grown as far as smell, look, and taste of scissor hash but it sure is a light yielding girl. Here is one Skunk plant compared to one Sand widow (aside from bottom buds)....huge yield difference.
