I love the Stand Your Ground law and I wish we had this law in Canada, here we have the Excessive Force law, which means you can not use lethal force in your own defense unless lethal force is used against you, and this would be hard to prove so even if lethal force was used against you, you might end up in jail,.
So if they kill you, you can kill them back? Makes sense.
Michigans is a little better. If you are not in commission of a crime, you can use force, or deadly force if the following conditions apply. You have to honestly and reasonably believe that the force is necessary to prevent death, great bodily harm, or unwanted sexual penetration. And that the threat is imminent. There is also a presumption of innocence written into the statute in MCL 780.951
MCL 780.972
780.972 Use of deadly force by individual not engaged in commission of crime; conditions.Sec. 2.
