hell no. It'll be a damn oven. You're plants will always be too close to the light. 250 at the highest, maybe a 150.

With good ventilation you can get away with a 150W HPS and supplement with some CFLs. You can leave the HPS off until flower, vent it well and you'll be good.

It's not necessarily the heat, but it's the distance to the light. An HID fixture will come down a foot from the top, plus whatever hight your pots are, about another 12 inches. You're only looking at a foot from the rim of the pot to the bottom of the light. even with a glass plate, you're plants will be too close to the light and they will burn. If you had the taller box, you could easily do a 250 if it was fully ventilated and had a glass lens.

Gotcha. I was looking to go 12/12 from seed to keep the height way down.
But i'll heed your advice, and look for other means of lighting. Thanks for your help.:blsmoke:

It only comes down a matter of inches from the top of the box i used. it was $$$

yeah, unless you get a taller cabinet, it ain't gonna work. You don't understand how much heat a 400W generates. I have a 250W in a 3x3x6 grow hut, fully ventilated with glass and it still get's hot in there sometimes.

You have to use a cooltube, I got the same size box w/ cooltube and 400watt digital.
Temps get around 88% or 89%. I'm pushing the temps but it can be done.

i'd like to use my 400 watt.I love it So a cool tube would be the best option?
