actually, i wouldn't even use HID. CFL's would be a better route with a short box.
With good ventilation you can get away with a 150W HPS and supplement with some CFLs. You can leave the HPS off until flower, vent it well and you'll be good.But...But... I planned on keeping my plants short. Stop shittin in my sandbox!! lol.

It's not necessarily the heat, but it's the distance to the light. An HID fixture will come down a foot from the top, plus whatever hight your pots are, about another 12 inches. You're only looking at a foot from the rim of the pot to the bottom of the light. even with a glass plate, you're plants will be too close to the light and they will burn. If you had the taller box, you could easily do a 250 if it was fully ventilated and had a glass lens.

You have to use a cooltube, I got the same size box w/ cooltube and 400watt digital.
Temps get around 88% or 89%. I'm pushing the temps but it can be done.
