What the hell happened?

Last night me and 2 friends took 1 1200ug blotter of 25i-NBOMe. Held it between my gums in my right cheek area along with the other 2, because I told them in absorbs more of the chem that way.
Anway 1 hour in were all having a ball and we decided to smoke some AK-47 just to get it more intresting, and about 30 minutes after smoking a 1.5 gram blunt we were all tripping but one of my friends was now having a extremley bad time. He kept having thought loops and was saying bizarre things. He basically told us he wanted to go to the hospital and he thought he was dying, and at one point he started crying, this went on for a total of 3.5 hours.
I had a great time, so did my other friend although at times he was not having a pleasant exp.
I have never seen someone act this way before off 25i. He was having a great time until he smoked.
Is it possible the weed induced a bad trip for him? I heard that smoking on psychs can cause extreme paranoia but I smoke on almost all psychedelic exp's and never had a trip like that except for 2 times total out of well over 100.
Any clues as to why this happened? He's fine now but last night I really was thinking of calling an ambulance.

Some people flip out and there's no rhyme nor reason. I'd take some time to make sure I felt ok before tripping again and another experience like that would make me stop probably.

It was some of the scariest shit I've ever seen. When shit like this happens how do you calm someone down? Anything you can do to get them to relax.

You just need to remain calm so that they see that you are calm. Keep reassuring them that they are okay and that it will pass... it's just drugs etc. There is no magic cure (that I know). Trips can be unpredictable. Weed can be the "triggering factor" in causing someone to start to freak out. For me it's one of the things that calms me down no matter what.

A benzo can come in handy too

Yup Yup, seen people freak out on low doses of acid, shrooms, 4acodmt (well that wasnt so low lol)

Point is anyone can react negatively and sometimes at doses that are considered normal or low.

Reassure them, maybe try to change the setting, new room, put music on. Benzos might be an option if needed and depending on the person(keep it low dose) .

pot does have some odd side effects sometimes and can trigger anexity and panic attacks in people mixed with other drugs.

for example take 15 Dimenhydrinate and smoke and i got electric shocks from my toes to my brain every time. without fail

Seems like one should be experienced before dabbling in the unknown..too many ballsy beeps get in over their head trying to hang with the big dogs..or chillin with cats...

While I agree this is true and it can happen, experience provides a strong defense against things turning bad. I have had numerous trips that were right on the edge of train wrecks and trip disasters that I only got through because of experience that turned into awesome experiences.

While I agree with duck, experience helps in tough situations, I can use myself as example of a well seasoned psychonaut, veteran of a number of rather high dose experiences who, despite all my skill did not manage to correct a bad trip - now on the other hand I weathered it and the one after as well so perhaps that counts as a bad trip avoided? No, simply a hospital visit avoided. BUT, many of us know that the hospital is the worst place for a bad tripping person, all they are going to do is what you could do anyway, give them a benzo and wait it out, only without soothing music and low light levels and friends supporting you.

With regard to pot - yes, the OP now sees the ability of pot to trigger an epsiode. One of the dangers (or good qualities, depending) of pot and mushrooms is that they often cause the user to become introspective. Sometimes that introspection turns into a distortion of self image and worse, it invokes emotions that are unneeded and often times unwanted, add that introspection to an otherwise fine old time and things can get tense.

Yet another reason I rarely smoke on the up side of an experience.

I've encountered a tripper who was agonized over the prospect of his father's death, crying like an Italian grandmother at a funeral. "Is he sick? "no", "how old is he?" "61", so what's the problem? "well he IS going to die".

Now appeals to reason fail in most trips (what the hell are you worried about your father for then?) but if one can entice emotion then many bad trips can be turned around - emotion is always the key Fear, dread, loathing, resentment - depression, those are usually the things that cause the most problem - it isn't the fact that you see your corpse in the mirror it's the fact that you have unhappy feelings regarding this vision. That you are not divorced from the meaning, that you are engaged and are at one point or another unable to continue to surrender to whatever happens (remember these feelings and do something about it when you come down, tell your dad you love him). so if one can assist another into a a realm of hope or anticipation or revelation, the bad moments may well pass.

And as we all know, what we resist... persists, especially during an acid ride.

i am not sure, perhaps Duck can enlighten us but I believe thee were some drugs that were made worse by the addition of a benzo and I know that in my two bad experiences (always be prepared), 10 mg of valium was like a few grains of dust in an endless wind and were brushed aside in a matter of minutes.

that sucks sounds like he got scared and couldnt shake it imo some of the most profound experiences ive had where due to having a bad trip i never cryed for 3 hours but as soon as i shook the bad vibes that when things really took off.

Canndo,I agree..my brother took some acid micd at 250..but he took 5..and was 14..my mom took him to the hospital, where all he did was hyperventilate till he passed out, wake up,hold his breath untillhe couldn't anymore, and the hyperventilate till unconsious again..all the dr did was monitor him from time to time with his bloodpressure..said it was all this 'bad acid' going around..I asked him where 'good acid was' and he walked out..but any ways,I feel my brother would have fared better if I had been able to lower the lights and let him work through the trip, and he'll guide him.instead a lot of sensory overload pushed him further in the wrong direction..he thought he'd wrecked his '57 chevy(car he dreamed of owning) and the blood pressure monitor on his finger was keeping him alive..horrble thoughts of the other car and who he killed/injured...a little experiencehe could guided himself out of this..he di so with many other trips when he took too much,I suppose from knowldge of this trip,he helped himself through a few othe rough rides(I dosed him a lot,but he asked for it..and I'm the older brother ;-) )

Ive had a many panic attacks just from weed alone. Pretty much the scariest part of the panic attack, is the panic attack itself. For a while I was so fearful of panic attacks that I would give myself panic attacks. It became an endless loop in my brain. Eventually with benzos and antidepressants I overcame it, then quit the benzos and antidepressants and have never had a full blown panic attack since. The best thing you can do for your friend, IMO, is to change the scenery, go for a walk, listen to his/her favorite music. They might have a really hard time breaking the loop of it, but for me the key was to get distracted. Worse case scenario, I'd have to wait it out sometimes a couple hours.

Sometimes after a really bad panic attack where I felt like I was going to die, I would be left with a euphoric afterglow and that was kind of nice.

I agree with the change of scenery, but to a safe place, not a hospital or something like that that would just increase the experience and lead to a bit of explaining as well. Had a friend who dosed a lot too hard on P.Copelandias in Amsterdam, and we were damn close to going to the hospital... only thing that kept us from going was that we were in the Army and very much NOT supposed to be in the Dam.

I had thought I was an experienced Psylonaut and could handle any bad trip in my presence and I just flat out didn't know what to do as I was tripping pretty hard as well. Luckily we were inside the Heineken Experience and a sober Psylonaut saw the size of our pupils and what was going on and suggested some fresh air and a candy bar. He pulled me to the side and had me use the candy bar as a placebo, telling him it was what he needed to come down immediately.

Granted, he was still tripping pretty had after that Snickers bar, but to someone who was outside his mind, that along with the fresh air and lack of overwhelming experiences inside were enough to bring him back to reality. Also, the confidence that you knew what was going on and you could help was a big deal. We waited on a park bench under a shady tree until our friends were done with the tour and everything ended up being ok.

Perhaps without actually going through a bad trip and/or seeing someone go off the deep end, you always have a false self confidence about being able to fix anything that comes around, but these are some pretty hardcore drugs and eventually it will happen. I had to stop tripping with my best friend because he just can't get over his mom dying 3 years ago... he just never got over it and it comes up every single time...

All you can try to do is remind yourself that it'll wear off in time, and everything will go back to ok soon enough. If it's a friend going through it, be his/her rock and do your damndest to change the thought, or scenery, or music, or whatever the environment calls for changing to try to trigger something other than what's being fixated on. Give them something busy to do with their hands, something to look at deeply, trigger a smell or other sense... anything but continuing the behavior that got them in that bad spot in the first place.

And I usually don't go outside when tripping because it always leads to wanting to go somewhere while I'm rocked, but fresh air is a hell of an eye opener when tripping. Entirely different than being inside, and is sometimes all you need to change course.

And then of course there is the chant. Shamman don't learn chants and songs for nothing. A song that one learns ahead of time can be used to bring oneself out of many a dark or helter skelter place.

I recall being terrified once because the patterns lacked symmetry - a sure sign that this time things were going to be very different....
