Square or Rectangular Grow Tent for 600w with Blazer hood?

Im in the market for a grow tent and am trying to figure out what size is going to be best. I have a Sun System Blazer 6" air cooled hood that measures 23" x 20". With the flanges for ducting it measures about 27" long but the actual glass and reflector is only 23" long. Im running a 600w MH/HPS light with the hood.

I will only be flowering 3 plants at a time so will only have 3 plants in the tent most of the time. I may have 6 in there for a little bit if I start vegging the next crop early.

My question is what size grow tent is going to have the most efficient light coverage with my shape hood? Would something like a 4x2x6 tent be better since the hood is slightly rectangular?

Also if you think a square tent would be better would you go with a 3x3 or a 4x4 for only 3 plants?

Would the bigger tent be easier to cool?

I am thinking a 3x3 would probably be good enough but when I add my fan and carbon filter to my hood the extra space of a 4x4 may make things easier?

I also think I need at least a 6 foot tall tent so I can have enough distance between my light and my plants.... 5 feet doesnt seem enough.



Any input is appreciated.

Oh and if you guys have any good/decent CHEAP grow tents you recommend please post them! Definitely on a tight budget at the moment

I know bigger area and upsizing the fans can help with cooling. I run a very small cab and couldn't run my hps ballast at 200w without frying my plants with a 4 in fan at full speed.

I'd suggest LST the plants to make the most of the vertical room. How tall are your pots? Your light? How much clearance between light and plants?

Pots are 3 gallon so about 10" tall. The hood is only 7" tall but when you add in the ratchet and metal hooks its probably about a foot from where it hangs. So I guess the pots and hood take up 2 feet of space combined....damn plus the distance I need from the top of the canopy to my light! Although im sure once I get my exhaust fan hooked up to the hood I will be able to keep it fairly close to the top of the plants. Right now it is about 14-18" from the tops. I forgot to mention I will be LSTing and probably keeping the plants under 3ft since I hear thats the most a 600w penetrates effectively.

yeah, even if you can get the plants close to the light, that blocks out spread of the light. I'm starting to wonder if part of my issue with my led is being too close and not having enough spread

I have the same footprint hood in a 4x4 tent. Works great just hang the filter and run it inline with the hood to exhaust. It will get hot in there. Good luck.

Thanks for the answer....do you think a 3x3 would get too cramped with our size of hood and a 16" long carbon filter? I was measuring out the spot in my room I wanted to put the tent and a 4x4 would be kind of a pain even though my room is pretty big, and plus I think it will be a waste of space with only 3 plants....even if I let them get huge.

Thoughts?

Also anyone using a 4x2x7 tent and liking it? I feel like 2 feet of width isnt enough for my bushes :bigjoint:

I wouldn't throw the 600 in the 3x3. Plus I had 4 in the 4x4 and I took up all the space. I think u would regret the 3x3. That extra foot gives you just a little more room to work with.

Thats what im starting to think as well...especially if I need to put my humidifier in there.
