Soil or hydro???

what is everyone opinion on the set up that gives you the largest yield lets dabate! soil? dwc? nft?flood and drain ? scrog? let me know what you think? starting up another op soon was wondering if i should try something different

Everything being equal (strain, veg/flower time, lilghting, etc.) Hydro will yield better then soil.

I've alway felt the bubbler (DWC), was the easiest to use.. (Of course I maybe prejudice, since I helped design the bubbler)

But that is my honest opinion



Theres the first shot bill put in of a bubbler root system, At Cannabis Culture. As I recall at the time, a lot of people didn't even know that they were looking at a root system. The comment was, "what's that?" lol

Still I won't deny, you can yield up in soil, even when your using the lowest power fluroscent lights to flower with.

The biggest bulb I used on this is a fluro 150, they make them up to 300 watts...



This plant was about 3 foot tall, and had about 2 weeks left to flower... Using only low to mid range fluro power to do it.

Ebb/flow here, I use rockwool slabs and cubes and I will never look back. My yeild and ease of use makes it an easy choice. Just imagine, water 3 litres a day and produce 550-600g a plant! Run into a problem, any problem, and all you do is flush the shit out of them and they never new what hit them.

I have seen friends do soil grows, hydro grows and I do soil. You can get the same weights from soil as hydro and vise versa. IMO soil always has a better taste and smell then hydro in most cases. Soil is less complicated, less time consuming and easier/more forgiving. Growth is faster in hydro in veg at the least but soil growth can keep up if you use good soil and smart pots. Hydro is also more costly to set up because of equipment needed equipment, DWC is pretty cheap though. It's soil for me and I see no need to go hydro.

From my own perspective very healthy plants can be accomplished in both soil grows and hydro grows. However, if we want to talk plants indoors, it is hard to beat the growth rates of a well dialed in hydroponic system (dtw,dwc,ebb+flow...). If you are growing outside under the sun, that's a different story

unless you have a very large expence account to set up . go with soil. hydro . you need water chiller. keep water proper temp or get mold allergy. plus the hydro unit, that limits your number of plants, and have to be good with nutes. and flush every what every 7 days all that water down the drain and nutes expencive , and it must bump up the humidity in the room, idk but any time you put a super strong light above water it seams like it will produce algy in a few days. so keeping the water cool is a must. soil you throw it into a 5 to 7 gallon pot and no worries, who wants to chill the water another damn bill already costing 150 a month to run the ac in the room my opinion only , im sure guys that know what there doing wont touch soil,lol

I grow in Soil.. I had a buddy who grew in hydro. I use a 1K light, and he used a 250W. He could get buds as big as mine, if not bigger sometimes. I found with his Hydro set up, the roots basically had a never ending zone to grow in. Whereas with pots, (unless you use huge indoor pots) you would eventually get root bound. This is a huge factor imo.

Soil for me, at least for now, seems a bit tidier with hydro, not as much mess once you get going, but seems more natural in soil.

I used hydo when I started , but I decided to go with soil because I could grow bigger plants. My last grow was with DP Ultimate in 3 gal pots and they averaged 4' in hight, with a yield of only about 4.5 oz each in bud though, which reading the posts about hydro is a small yield I guess.

I always ended up with more, but only because he grew in a closet stealth box. I grew in a whole room, with a scrog.

Another thing that maybe puts folk off hydro is the science, seems awfully complicated and scientific, but I wish I could learn a bit more
