Me and a friend got caught with a gram and a bowl in a parked vehicle at a park. He is 19 and I am 18. After talking with the cop, he pretty much intimidated the shit out of us but seemed alright for a cop. He and his other cop bud drove up and started making fun of us and laughing obnoxiously and making us feel stupid (which we were). He made fun of my bowl and made comments like, "this car is going to be seized by the drug task force, what do they call that? Poetic justice"? and how we probably wished we were at home toking and watching half baked. I signed a consent to search and I didn't have anything else. He ran our ID and made us empty our pockets on the hood. We were never cuffed or put in the back of a cruiser, I was somewhat frisked after one cop but they didn't touch my front pockets/legs or shoes/socks. They started talking about how heroin is prevalent in our county and becoming a big problem, he started telling us heroin stories and shit. He waited for 30 minutes with us while I called my friend to come pick us up and then he left. We never got a citation or ticket from this encounter, but were each told to expect a summons in the mail soon. he told us that since he didn't want to mess up our future, that he would give us summary offenses instead of possession and DUI. I'm very grateful for not being arrested, but why didn't he issue a citation/ticket on the scene? He made me leave my car parked there for 24 hours before I could retrieve it.

I think your off free right now. I think the cop might have been fucking with you because there is no citation and he let you come back to your car. They didn't even tow it? I think you got lucky, being honest when you only have that much sometimes pays off in spades. Don't expect to get lucky like that again though .

I agree with Jacfolly. Being that you and your pal are 18 and 19 the officer probably just decided to just irl troll you guys and chuckle about it to "teach you a lesson" or something. Make you sweat for a while and stuff you know? If he really wanted to be a dick he could have wrote you a ticket/citation with a case# or depending on your local laws took you to the pokey.
I'd 1/10 worry about it and maybe keep an eye on the mail.
No smoking in really open public places like that though. Or in your vehicle for that matter. You can always get bonded out of jail. When your car gets seized it's a whole different can of worms. You may be free but you'll be dusting off the old Huffy lol.
Got popped a decade ago like that myself. Was outside of the vehicle and pretty far away from it. Got hauled in. Buddy of mine watched the whole thing go down. They spotted the car after the fact. Called a local place to come tow it. Wasn't seized so I lucked out there. He bonded me out a few hours later.
Me "Is my car still there?"
Him "Nah man but I'll lend you the $ to get it out"
So the wrecker and lot fee for the whole "day" it was there came out to over $300. After everything was said and done it ran me $1500 altogether via fines and I was also ordered to "donate" $500 to the local drug task force on top of that. Which I had 30 days to comply to that specific little detail. Worst part was the officer who nailed me happened to be the one at the station at the time I turned my "donation" in. Once again there he was a smug sh*t talker. That was by far worse than the legal extortion honestly.
Funny thing is I got claim it as a tax write off though
Your case could have been muuuucccchhhhh worse bro lol. Just use better judgement when out in public. Bowls are also another charge in itself tacked to it. You can swallow a roach or joint no problem. Can't find nothing. Can't do nothing. Saved my ass on another misadventure when pulling up to a roadblock. I actually got to be the verbal A-hole that round.
You avoided paying the piper this round. Take it as a huge reminder of how you can be more careful in the future. Because when you DO have to pay him. It sucks

I would count my lucky stars . Lesson learnt now move on and accept what becomes of your actions .
I think its all bullshit full well knowing that our Police could be doing something positive verses harassing marijuana users , but in your case smoking in the park was dumb and that you must admit . I had my share of young and dumb moments too . But now if in a park I would only smoke with a joint and even you would think its just a cigg .. I walk around with joints all the time but I do not allow others to be close enough to cop an odor .. Safer than Sorry is the Stoners Creed

Well I called a lawyer and they advised me to call them when/if I get the summons in the mail. The lawyer said it would be unlikely for me to not get this within a week or so. This is different than what you guys have been saying. I would have much rather received the ticket at the scene instead of a few weeks later in the mail. Seems like a waste of paperwork and labor to not issue it at the scene.
This has all gone down in PA, and from what I have researched, summary offences can be expunged within 5 years and do not show up on a background check that employers would use. The officer is the one who told me that, and I know they don't have to tell the truth. He did say that it would always be in law enforement background checks not accessible to public.

In my experience, when a cop is a dink, I mean a REAL dink to you.. its because in actaullity he's going to cut you a break & this is a bit of a punishment he can doll out.

Well, some of you were wrong. I received two summary offenses for disorderly conduct and public drunkeness, The officer requested max fine apparently. 750 dollars, what a stupid decision -.-.. I owe him a thank you for not giving me possession and paraphernalia..that would ruin my financial aid and employment since I am 18 and I would lose license for 6 months.
Seriously thinking about giving it up for a few years because I can get these expunged in five years. Maybe move to a better state someday

NOt sure abuot where you live, but here you can take a fine like that & see the Justice of the Peace & they will usually work with you. Just because the officer suggests a high fine doesnt mean they will make you pay that much. NOt here in Canada anyways. Little bit of a sad luck story world work well here
