Hello my fellow community members. I have decided to create my first tutorial, so if there are things I'm missing I apologize.
So if you are following my other recent posts, Butane is infact poisonous. Well, not exactly. The canning process of the butane inevitably adds a toxic chemical into the can that is unavoidable with butane. Even with 20x refined butane, you will still have the same amount of toxins within the can. So we use Alcohol. If you go to the store, and you buy the cheap 70% Isopropyl rubbing alcohol, (yes, the cheap stuff with the water in it.) Then pour your alcohol into a jar with sodium chloride, (Table salt) and add more than enough to saturate the water so no more will dissolve into the water. Salt will not dissolve in Alcohol, so the salt will bind with the water, and become heavier than the alcohol. Let the salt water and everything become still and all the salt water falls to the bottom of the jar. Then you can siphon or use a turkey baster to get the liquid from the top and you will now have 100% Isopropyl alcohol, AKA Dehydrated Isopropyl. This will pull less polar molecules when you do your initial soak in buds or trim or shake, or hey, sometimes even kiff because this now has no water. just be careful not to pull any saline (fully saturated salt water) in when removing the alcohol off the top.
Now that you have your pure Isopropyl, you need to make saline. get hot water (NOT BOILING!!!) and pour as much salt in as you want, but you need to have a good thick layer of salt at the bottom of the jar. then close the lid and SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE! now, let the jar settle so everything is solid would fall to the bottom.
Now you have a jar of saline, and a jar or 100% Dehydrated Isopropyl alcohol, you need your herb!!
Put your buds ground smaller than joint rolling size into a jar, and then pour enough alcohol in until it comes a little bit over the herb. then put the lid on and shake! you want to soak it in the jar for about a minute. then, pour your material in a ziplock bag, and get a coffee filter ready fastened on top of a jar. take the ziplock bag, and puncture the corner so you can drain the liquid out of the bag into the coffee filter and this enables you to squeeze the material in the bag to get more alcohol out.
After it all goes through the coffee filter, you have a dark green liquid. pour this into a gallon ziplock bag, hung by one corner so liquid will collect in one corner. pour your Green Alcohol into this bag hanging from its corner, and then add half that amount in saline. seal the bag, and shake! you will see the salt water discolor. There is all sorts of things that will fall into this saline out of the alcohol that you want out.
Essentially, your giving your green alcohol a little micro scrub. =P Then puncture a small hole in the bottom, drain out the salt water, pinch off, add more saline, and repeat until you have washed your Alcohol to your satisfaction. then when you are done washing it with saline, drain it into a pyrex dish and let it evaporate. Or to excel the evaporation process, i fashioned a mason jar lid onto a 'U' shaped copper pipe, that then falls down into a bin filled with ice water and the copper pipe coils in the ice water bin and then pokes through the bottom. I will attach a picture of the ziplock bag and the distiller i made. The mason jar is filled with the washed alcohol, the distiller is attached and put into a water bath. this heats up the alcohol and it begins to boil. this is where the magic happens. The alcohol evaporates, goes up through the tube and is forced through the tube that coils through the freezing cold water bath, this recondenses the alcohol vapors into liquid, and it drips into a collection bottle. this distills the alcohol only so i get it back in pure form. then you can make more green alcohol, wash it, distill it, and continue this process until you have the amount of oil you want. Some One I Met has a mason jar that is almost full of very potent hash oil.
I hope this will help someone out there... and I'm sorry this tutorial kind of sucks... =/
